Jen In Guinea: May 2006
http://jeninguinea.blogspot.com/2006_05_01_archive.html
Wednesday, May 31, 2006. Hmm, it's actually the Dairy State, but I think The Cheese State has a much nicer ring to it. Dad got to Brooklyn Friday night and we met up with the guy who bought my couch and chair (I love you, Craigslist) and got that moved. After a delicious dinner of Dumac and Cheese at DuMont with dad and my roommates, we headed home to load the Suburban. Since dad is really hardcore, we finished everything by midnight, had a glass of wine with Aruna and set an alarm for 4:30am. Tuesday ni...

Jen In Guinea: November 2006
http://jeninguinea.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, November 29, 2006. Thanksgiving and some random stuff. Random story number 1:. I figured out what the Guinean equivalent of a lemonade stand is. On our way to Boke there were about 5 places where the military stopped us and asked us for our identification. They normally would harass white people but they leave us PC folks alone. Anyway, we came across another checkpoint, but it was just some enterprising little kids! There are ATMs here, but they are useless. You can only take out 200,000 ...

Saturday, August 19, 2006. Practice School Starts Monday! We have 3 weeks of practice school and then training is essentially over. It seems like it's taken forever and that it's flying by at the same time. Some people don't like training at all, because we are babied and busy and it's a pain, but I'm having a great time. And I know I'm going to sob when I say good-bye to my host family! Hmmm, what else about Guinea? I meant to write down some ideas before we got to Conakry today, but didn't get a chance.

Jen In Guinea: September 2006

Tuesday, September 26, 2006. Live from Labe Part 2. Is there anything more attractive than a group of 30 Americans in Guinean clothing? Last night was our affectation party - the theme was 80s and I found a silver prom dress with a giant bow on the front to wear. It was spectacular. We drank and danced until after 2am. We also ate chwarmas - I'm going to eat another one in a minute, which will take my chwarma intake to 5 in the last 24 hours. Gross. But they are so good! The first person left today, anot...

Jen In Guinea: April 2006

Thursday, April 27, 2006. Choices, choices, choices. My generation has more choices than ever before. 30 is the new 20. I'm not expected to buy a home, get married, or have babies yet. Or ever, if that's what I want. Or I could do it all tomorrow, if that's what I want. Isn't that incredible? We are actually free to do what we want - so why do people criticize others' decisions so freely? Don't we all just want to be happy and fulfilled? Camp and the "why would you want to live in Africa? And I can't wai...

Thursday, February 23, 2006. Mass Transit Story #2. My officemate just told me a story from her commute on the C train this morning. Anyway, she was sitting and ignoring the smell. Then the man put his hand down his pants and started jerking off. J. couldn't tell what was going on for a bit because she didn't want to make eye contact. When she finally did, he smiled at her in a gross way and continued playing with himself. I asked J. what she did - did she get off the train? Move to another car? Finally ...

Jen In Guinea: June 2006
http://jeninguinea.blogspot.com/2006_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 24, 2006. Where is home, anyway? Yesterday my mom and I went to Illinois to see my family one last time before the trip. It was wonderful to see my aunts, uncles, cousins and suggogate family, but it was a bit depressing to see my grandfather. Now Guinea will be home. Hmmmmif I have homes all over the world, do I have 5 homes or none? I'm going to go "glass half-full" on that one and say 5. Posted by Jen @ 5:58 PM. Thursday, June 22, 2006. Less than 2 weeks left. It's really a great realiz...
