Jen In Guinea

Monday, November 03, 2008. I think it's time to retire the blog. Especially since I'm fairly certain I'm the only one who will ever read this entry! Morocco was amazing and not freezing like the last time. Diane and mom had a great time and Camilo and I loved showing them around. Cam and I moved to DC and are living in the Ballston area of Arlington. We have a nice apartment, a car and all the cheese a girl could ask for available round the clock. Posted by Jen @ 7:37 PM. Jen In Guinea: July 2006

http://jeninguinea.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html

Wednesday, July 12, 2006. La Vie Est Bonne. My group heads to our homestays in Forecariah tomorrow and won't have internet for at least a month, so this is going to be kind of short so everyone else can get on the computers. I'm really looking forward to finding out where my site is, I'm hoping for the Fouta region, it's the most lush and chilly part of the country. The food here is good - I've had mangoes, avocados, rice and sauce, oranges and bananas every day so far. Yum! I'm sure it will be a huge ad...

Jen In Guinea: March 2006

http://jeninguinea.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html

Friday, March 10, 2006. Dads are all the same. Today I had lunch with my friends Amanda and Farrah. Amanda's dad came along because he's in town for the Big East basketball something or another. My officemate just asked what he was like and I realized something:. Lunch would have been exactly the same if my dad had been there instead of Amanda's! And that reminded me of a story from the summer of 2002. Male Voice (MV): Hi sweetie. Me: Is mom there? MV: She's still at work. Why wouldn't they be okay?

Jen In Guinea: August 2006

http://jeninguinea.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html

Saturday, August 19, 2006. Practice School Starts Monday! We have 3 weeks of practice school and then training is essentially over. It seems like it's taken forever and that it's flying by at the same time. Some people don't like training at all, because we are babied and busy and it's a pain, but I'm having a great time. And I know I'm going to sob when I say good-bye to my host family! Hmmm, what else about Guinea? I meant to write down some ideas before we got to Conakry today, but didn't get a chance.

Jen In Guinea: Long time, no post

http://jeninguinea.blogspot.com/2008/08/long-time-no-post.html

Saturday, August 30, 2008. Long time, no post. I can't believe it's been so long since I posted, I apologize to those of you (are you out there? Who still faithfully read the blog! After Girls Conference Camilo and I headed to Forecariah to help with training. One of the great things about training is that it's tediousness prepares you for life in Guinea. One of the terrible things about training is how tedious it is! If not I will, they are hilarious and awesome) another and a PCV stayed with us the fir...

Life After the Water Method: January 2008

http://intakeandoutput.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html

Life After the Water Method. Thursday, January 10. Guinea general strike called off. By Will Ross BBC West Africa correspondent. Last year's strike ended when a new PM was announcedAfter days of negotiations, trade unions in Guinea have called off a nationwide strike planned for Thursday. There were fears the strike could have led to a renewal of violence which left close to 200 people dead last year. They have now agreed to work with the government to ensure the deal holds, leading to a sense of relief.

Lost In Guinea: August 2008

http://africami.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Tuesday, August 19, 2008. 27 days and counting. It's really a mixed bag of emotions, but largely, I'm getting very excited to go back. Tomorrow, all the trainees will head to Forecariah, as will Jen and I (she's off in the Fouta for her site visit). We're training until Sept. 6th or so, then headed back up to Boke to say goodbye, before leaving for a two week jaunt through Morocco. Oh man, oh man, I can't wait to eat a lamb, prune and almond tajine! Top 5 Things I Will NOT Miss. 1 Bush taxis, bush taxis,...

Lost In Guinea: I swear I had nothing to do with this...

http://africami.blogspot.com/2008/09/i-swear-i-had-nothing-to-do-with-this.html

Saturday, September 06, 2008. I swear I had nothing to do with this. Well, it appears that Guinea, and more specifically Boke, is turning into a transportation hub for drug traffickers from Colombia and Guinea-Bissau. They are finding new paths of least resistance for their drug routes to Europe, and Guinea is proving to have little resistance. Especially in Boke, where almost all the major authorities were involved. Read on. Guinea probes suspected drugs flights in mine zone. Fri 5 Sep 2008, 9:51 GMT.

Lost In Guinea: June 2008

http://africami.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 30, 2008. The Rest - Timbi, the Falls, and the trip back. On our journey back to Conakry we happen to pick up another volunteer, Liz. We will spend one night in Conakry to prepare for our trip to Timbi Medina, the location of Jen’s site. We went for pizza at the Beach Bar with some of the other PCV. Not bad pizza! Too bad there was no plumbing! Without idealizing my experience, it is my hope that I don’t forget to remember all that I have seen, lived and learned, and actually make an a...

Lost In Guinea: Girls Conference 2008

Sunday, August 10, 2008. Twenty one volunteers came to Mamou with their girls on sunday night, some people coming from as far as 10 hours away. The end of the conference meant we also cleared our last hurdle before finishing up our service in 37 days. Where have i been? Stay tuned. Oo'o. Sounds the conference was great. Where are you landing once back in the states? Did I see something about D.C. on your Facebook? Are you and Tony still in New York? Hope to see you guys upon my return!

Life After the Water Method: November 2007

http://intakeandoutput.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html

Life After the Water Method. Thursday, November 29. I have finished my Masters. Yesterday, I got an email from my favorite professor, George DeMartino, saying he had graded my "Substantial Research Paper" (SRP), and I had gotten an A! When I picked up the paper this morning, there was the following comment:. Nicely done. Beautifully writtten and well argued. You demonstrate the theoretical sophistication of a scholar AND the writing ease of a journalist - a rare combination indeed.". I am so happy!

Life After the Water Method: July 2007

http://intakeandoutput.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html

Life After the Water Method. Tuesday, July 31. I would like to propose a toast to those going back. Enjoy it for all of us. Tuesday, July 17. Ok, so I haven't posted in a long time. I wish I could say I have been away from computers or been too busy or been doing at least something! But I can't. Truth be told, I have been too boring to write anything. I work, I eat, I workout, I sleep. Occasionally, there is a movie, a new restaurant, a new friend, but it never seems worth a posting.

Jen in Haiti

Friday, April 12, 2013. The officials TRY to have "lanes". Walkers, wheel barrels, motorcycles and vehicles. NO ONE listens and everyone goes everywhere which in turn blocks vehicles and motorcycles. Then the motorcycles rev and inch forward. Spreading so much gas fumes it becomes toxic. Then the 18 wheelers decide to "inch" forward and almost topple the mottos (aka ME, the driver and others). Lesson learned. If I can avoid crossing on Market Days I will do so. Donating - Help It Grow. Posted by Jen Wride.
