Ageing with Dignity

Promoting the better care of the seniors in our community. Dedicated to my parents. Monday, December 23, 2013. Bad Spelling and Bad News! I found this at the Courier Mail (Brisbane, Queensland's Daily Newspaper) today. INDUGLING in exotic foods, frequently travelling and buying new cars is what many Australians expect to do in retirement despite falling well short of having the funds to do so. The rest of the article is here. It is not rare to see these errors. Shame. The detail of the article is interes...

Ageing with Dignity: May 2011

http://ageingwithdignity.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Promoting the better care of the seniors in our community. Dedicated to my parents. Sunday, May 15, 2011. Bad News for Seniors. There were several articles in The Sunday Mail in Brisbane today, May 15th, 2011, that provide depressing information for seniors. In addition, we learn that older people are being targetted by scammers, especially those who phone to say there is a problem with one's computer and they can fix it. Scammers. Hang up, is the best advice and do not tell them anything. It is certainl...

Ageing with Dignity: June 2011

http://ageingwithdignity.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Promoting the better care of the seniors in our community. Dedicated to my parents. Thursday, June 23, 2011. Yesterday, while driving, I was listening to ABC Classic Radio and there was an interview with Dr Mohamed Khadra, about a play he co-wrote with David Williamson, which premiered at the Noosa Long Weekend Festival. Dr Khadra wanted to create interest and discussion about the high cost of keeping people alive at the end of their lives, when the reality is that they should be able to die with dignity.

Ageing with Dignity: Housing for Seniors

http://ageingwithdignity.blogspot.com/2013/12/housing-for-seniors.html

Promoting the better care of the seniors in our community. Dedicated to my parents. Sunday, December 22, 2013. I have a three bedroom duplex - I only need two bedrooms really although when grandchildren come to stay the third bedroom is most useful. It was the best that was available to me - that I thought I could afford. I have searched (Australian) sites for seniors rental, and generally all I find are one bedroom "apartments" with meals included. Eeeeek! There is an Australian program ( NRAS). I have ...

An interesting article and more information to come with a paper to be released in the next few days. Go to. Ageing with Dignity: October 2011

http://ageingwithdignity.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Promoting the better care of the seniors in our community. Dedicated to my parents. Monday, October 31, 2011. I attended the forum on Aged Care, and told a little of our experiences with Aged Care with mum and dad, and since then I have been to Adelaide. (Mum celebrated her 96th birthday! And I have had discussions with one of the staff at her nursing home and a recently retired Director of Nursing back here in Brisbane. I have heard two women claim that they have arranged for their daughter "to give the...

Adventures of an Australian English Teacher: I remember.....

http://theadventurelady.blogspot.com/2012/06/i-remember.html

Adventures of an Australian English Teacher. Tuesday, 5 June 2012. It was on June 4th, in 1989, that something awful happened in Tiananmen Square in Beijing. I won't dwell on it here. I remember being in Tiananmen Square in 2010 and a cold chill running through my body as I recalled the images in the press of that awful day. Let it not be forgotten. The world will never forget what happened in that square that day. 22 June 2012 at 14:59. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Links to other Blogs.

Adventures of an Australian English Teacher: March 2012

http://theadventurelady.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Adventures of an Australian English Teacher. Sunday, 4 March 2012. What I big day I had - I shared with fellow member of 5W the story of Qiu Jin who is described as the "Chinese Joan of Arc" (1875 - 1907), a radical women's rights activist who defied tradition to become the leader of a revolutionary army in China. She was a prolific writer and also wrote. With all my heart I beseech and beg. My two hundred million female compatriots. To assume their responsibility as citizens. Chinese women, arise! Locat...

Adventures of an Australian English Teacher: Esk and Fernvale

http://theadventurelady.blogspot.com/2012/06/esk-and-fernvale.html

Adventures of an Australian English Teacher. Thursday, 7 June 2012. I've been 'itching' to take my car for a longer drive. My driving so far has been around the city and suburbs, and I felt like a long drive, so this morning I set off for Esk. Of course I have been through this part of the Lockyer Valley, but it was a long time ago. I did buy a meat pie at the famed Fernvale Bakery. I went for a short drive and found this house. I had a quiet giggle to myself. See the downpipe into the water tank? See th...

Adventures of an Australian English Teacher: May 2011

http://theadventurelady.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Adventures of an Australian English Teacher. Sunday, 29 May 2011. I am going to the Queensland Performing Arts Centre on June 9th to see the ballet "The Last Emporer" - but today I have been watching videos of Chinese Dancing. Since reading the book "Mao's Last Dancer" and seeing the movie several times, I have learned so much about the wonderful training and quality of dance in China. Many readers will be familiar with the iconic ballet "Swan Lake" - watch the video below and see how the Chinese do it.

Adventures of an Australian English Teacher: China or Bust

http://theadventurelady.blogspot.com/2012/06/china-or-bust.html

Adventures of an Australian English Teacher. Monday, 4 June 2012. A friend of mine has published her story about teaching in China, calling it "China or Bust." Christine writes under the name of Lana Kerr. The book is available on Amazon. She and I had quite different experiences. She went with her husband, which is clearly of benefit when taking on living in a strange country where the language is impossible to understand or read when you first arrive. Both books are available on Amazon.com. Two Years o...

Adventures of an Australian English Teacher: April 2011

http://theadventurelady.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Adventures of an Australian English Teacher. Tuesday, 12 April 2011. The Future of Education. Last night I went to a lecture at Griffith University (South Bank Campus) - the speaker was Richard Katz. Speaking about education towards 2020! It was very interesting to hear what he had to say, though I would have liked to have heard a little more detail about the future - there was a film about the history of education which was great too. I spoke with him afterwards. Wednesday, 6 April 2011. I remember the ...

Now I can focus on my writing! And my other plans. Friday, 15 June 2012. Is it an indication of our poor schooling these days? Or so many Australians whose first language is not English? Reading a property sales brochure today I came across this one. What do you think? Thursday, 7 June 2012. The weather was almost ...

Adventures of an Australian English Teacher: December 2011

http://theadventurelady.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Adventures of an Australian English Teacher. Friday, 9 December 2011. What will it mean? The video below shows how the Chinese have been building massive cities and accommodation complexes with major shopping centres, which remain empty. No one lives in the residentials - terribly expensive. The shopping complexes are awesome, and empty. Is this a smart country? I wonder when they are going to 'hit a wall'. I wonder what the future is with China. Check out these videos. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Ageing With Attitude | Be Interested! Be Interesting!

September 29, 2016. Just finished reading a biography of Coco Chanel written by Justine Picardie and found. Myself fascinated by this rags to riches story. Born in a poor house and taken to an orphanage following the death of her mother this peasant girl from the provinces leapt over the barriers of class that permeated high society and upturned the social hierarchy. She also was aged seventy when she launched her comeback collection. She stated that elegance in a garment is the freedom of movement and I...
