Writing about Media: Facebook: "It's baller"
http://writingaboutmedia.blogspot.com/2009/03/facebook-its-baller.html
Sunday, March 22, 2009. For this week's media ethnography assignment, I chose to focus on why and how my 9th, 11th, and 12th grade students use Facebook. My first question was "Do you participate in any social networks? 10 out of 60 said "no"; the rest said yes, and many participated in 3 or more groups! The next question was, "Which ones?

ajfitzpatrick07-CI 5472: WEEK 7 POST - MEDIA REPRESENTATIONS
http://ajfitzpatrick07.blogspot.com/2009/03/week-7-post-media-representations.html
Wednesday, March 4, 2009. WEEK 7 POST - MEDIA REPRESENTATIONS. When I read various engineering magazines, the emphasis of the articles and subsequently the pictures, are on fun, innovative projects. If pictures of the engineers are shown, they will most likely be in jeans and a tee shirt working out in the field. I tend to agree more with this type of representation which seems to rebuke the media representation of engineers. March 6, 2009 at 12:43 AM. My dad will sometimes hit me up with this "joke":.

Writing about Media: Why Teach Graphic Novels?
http://writingaboutmedia.blogspot.com/2009/04/why-teach-graphic-novels.html
Saturday, April 18, 2009. Why Teach Graphic Novels? I cut out this article from the 3/2/2008 issue of the Pioneer Press to post in my classroom. (Sorry if it's hard to read; I'm still getting used to using my scanner.). I found it interesting how the newspaper wrote about a class using the graphic novel format. It caught my eye when I was skimming the paper that day, as is the effect of graphic novels on many young readers. Then, I would use Gretchen Schwarz's idea. Of adapting a classic literary work in...

Sunday, May 3, 2009. FINAL PROJECT - NEWS ANALYSIS. The third and fourth CBS news segments were devoted exclusively to sports. The segments were reported by Mike Max who delivered the various local professional and amateur stories in an upbeat, enthusiastic manner whilst sitting at the studio desk. There were no teasers or promos at the end of either segment. The fourth ABC news segment began with the only national news story, followed by the show’s wrap up. The wrap up consisted of the two anc...The thi...

Using Media in Today's Classroom. Thursday, January 29, 2009. Must Read Adolescent Media Text! In response to the intense connections being made between "Feed" and this course (chats and Matty K's observations), I've included a synopsis of this adolescent literature. If you haven't read this, go get it! This text is used in many Media Studies courses and English courses throughout the state. To date, one of my fav adolescent books: that's saying a lot coming from someone with an English degree! Any Great...
