Alfred Williams (1877-1930), who was acclaimed in his day as Wiltshire's 'Hammerman Poet' had largely been forgotten in Swindon, and I decided that recording an album about his inspiring life would go some way to setting the record straight. It was as a result of the album that I met fellow Alfred fans Caroline Ockwell and Graham Carter, and the idea of the Alfred Williams Heritage Society. Took shape - and hence the Alfred Williams Heritage Festival in 2010. The original music has folk-rock/rock opera a...

Status, Scandal and Subterfuge. Saturday, August 24, 2013. Portrait of the Week - William Stukeley (1687-1765). This fine gentleman whose portrait hangs in Lydiard House is antiquarian and natural philosopher William Stukeley. By 1717 he was in London again where he gathered about him a circle of eminent friends including Sir Isaac Newton, William Wake, Archbishop of Canterbury and Robert Walpole. Further details of Stukeley's incredible life can be found on the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.

The World According to Graham Carter. Asymp; Leave a comment. April 8, 2012. The mammoth task of tiling our (albeit relatively small) bathroom took centre stage before normal service was resumed for Easter. Instead, I’m going for a radical solution that involves trying to buy a lot of random tiles, which. Gave me the excuse. Necessitated going to not one but two car boot sales today, which is always interesting. More on our tiling adventures at a later date. Asymp; Leave a comment. March 4, 2012. It wasn...

The World According to Graham Carter. Asymp; Leave a comment. This blog has now returned to its original home, which is: www.grahamcarter.net/blog.html. Asymp; Leave a comment. May 14, 2012. This won’t do. I have been trying to keep this blog more up to date, and I’m even in the process of converting it back to a self-supporting (non-WordPress) blog, but two things have got in the way. The second reason for not posting much is: not much has happened, apart from tiling. Did I say I had spent. Sell-out....
