I'm a keen amateur musician and songwriter, and since 2001 have written and recorded six albums - two of which I produced (and then thought it was better to get a proper sound engineer involved! I also wrote and produced a musical called The Hammerman, based on the life of the Wiltshire poet Alfred Williams, which was initially funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, and has been successfully performed to the public on two occasions - in 2010 and 2012, when I was a member of the show band. 183; Clinics held.

I qualified as a medical practitioner after training at the Middlesex Hospital, University of London, obtaining the degrees MB and BS. I went on to train in obstetrics and gynaecology after spending some time as a general surgeon and obtaining the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1983.
