FEBRUARY IN THE ALLOTMENT. The garden year is starting - for those who haven't started already. Mail Online - David Derbyshire's Allotment Blog
26 November 2012 12:25 PM. The smallest butternut squash in the world. We men are always being told that size isnt everything. But even so. After months of watering, feeding, weeding and love this was all the three (yes three) butternut squash plants could manage. Pathetic isnt the word. Small is. Last year a Canadian gardener called Joel Jarvis grew a 1,500lb squash. Mine barely registered on the kitchen scales. Its been one of those years. Roll on 2013. November 26, 2012 Permalink. Ive discussed this f...
The Allotment Blog
August 26, 2008. I may be joining the obligatory ‘courgette glut’ moaning, but I actually love courgettes (or zucchini). So I have not been troubled by eating them day after day, and have quite enjoyed trying out new ideas. Here are some of them. Jamie Oliver has a recipe with bacon (as traditional) in it, here. Just fine on its own or great with the carbonara. (based on the recipe here. COURGETTES STUFFED WITH PEA RISOTTO. I made a version of Ragu loosely based on the one at Cooking Light ( here. I know...

allotmentbuzz | Daily life down the allotment
Daily life down the allotment. February 7, 2016. Ok, so I didn’t quite make this one, but this is how I hope it will turn out. If you know where I can get a couple of spare pallets, please let me know. Thanks. A year in the making…. February 7, 2016. The trouble with having two blogs is that you have to remember to post to the right blog. Projects this year – where do I start? Planning used to be a forbidden word. July 22, 2015. Friday’s used to consist of planning and preparing lessons for the fol...
Allotment cats
Feral cats (and one which isn't) living at Walsall Road Allotments. Monday, 9 September 2013. He had lived with us for three years and was the first cat to be re-homed to us. He didn't enjoy living indoors so it was decided that he should be an 'outdoor' cat. He joined our group of feral cats and lived quite happily with them, especially Triangle and Janet. He was a real little character and will be missed. Monday, September 09, 2013. Monday, 14 January 2013. The cats have their own shed now. Just in cas...
Allotment Chick | Tales from my lottie amongst other things…
Tales from my lottie amongst other things…. July 21, 2008. Has it really been that long! What a fantastic place to be able to spend a year gardening…which is what I’ll be doing. I won’t have much money for the year, but at least i’ll be spending it learning loads and doing something I really enjoy. Well, that’s all for now, i’m off to spray my tomatoes with some horsetail spray…wonder if it will keep the blight at bay? June 18, 2008. Any suggestions would be welcome :-). Posted in My Allotment. I popped ...

One man went to grow | Just another WordPress.com weblog
One man went to grow. Just another WordPress.com weblog. March 9, 2013. March 9, 2013. My garlic growing has progressed over the years due to its relative success. Bung them in during late autumn and you can pretty much leave them alone until their leaves go yellow during the summer and its time to harvest. That said, the cloves have never been that big. So, when I saw someone from where I get my garlic (for planting) from ( The Garlic Farm. March 1, 2013. Like Ground Elder, I never quite died…. August 8...
