Dear Friends

Saturday, 22 June 2013. I am here. You have a new Vicar. I am here. You have a new Vicar. We can know that it is true for a number of reasons. One sign is that my name has appeared on the board outside Church. We had a marvellous induction and installation service last Wednesday, with Bishop Ian, the Archdeacon and the Rural Dean. There were many old friends from my previous Benefice and many new friends from this Parish. In today’s epistle, Paul teaches that Christ has broken down any barriers tha...

Dear Friends: The Third Sunday of Lent

http://www.allsaintschurchgfd.blogspot.com/2013/03/the-third-sunday-of-lent.html

Saturday, 2 March 2013. The Third Sunday of Lent. The parables of Jesus are a collection of stories that we know so well we can often recognise them by a single image or phrase. They are often short, simple and - some might say - ideal for children. But when you think you know a story really well, do you actually listen to it anymore? My attitude to the parables is, if I am honest, probably similar. Sower and his seeds? Yes, yes I know: he scatters them everywhere but only the ones in the good soil grow.

Dear Friends: March 2013

http://www.allsaintschurchgfd.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Saturday, 23 March 2013. Palm Sunday seems to me to be Easter in miniature and in reverse… It starts in celebration as we re-enact Jesus’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem, but then moves to despair in the dramatised gospel of the crucifixion. While you can argue that the eucharist is, as all eucharists are, a celebration of the resurrection, there is a power and bleakness to the passion gospel which is made all the more poignant because we participate in it directly. Best wishes, Mike Truman LLM. Either w...

Dear Friends: The Second Sunday of Lent

http://www.allsaintschurchgfd.blogspot.com/2013/02/the-second-sunday-of-lent.html

Saturday, 23 February 2013. The Second Sunday of Lent. Are you trying (like me) to shed a few pounds in Lent? There’s some direct encouragement from the letter to the Philippians: "the Lord Jesus Christ.has the power to transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body." In fact, I'm not sure Paul was talking about slimming nor that this is Jesus' top priority even if he does know every hair on our head! Best wishes, Paddy Payne ,. Dear Friends: April 2013

http://www.allsaintschurchgfd.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Sunday, 21 April 2013. Fourth Sunday of Easter. 8216;My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.’. A story and a (bad) joke for you:. 8216;So Jesus is the shepherd and we are the sheep, but what role does the Vicar take? She will be the sheepdog, because she wears a dog collar! 8217; Seriously though, as we follow Jesus the Shepherd, we will have the Vicar running around us and behind us nipping at our heels, cajoling us onward and pushing us forward to listen and follow Jesus.
