Just another WordPress.com site. A Flash of Red. Tuning Up →. February 1, 2014. The two starlings appeared at the feeder in below zero weather as usual. The severe cold had not, apparently, had an adverse effect on them. Starlings are not native and in some areas can clog feeding stations, discouraging our native birds. I don’t get large numbers at mine and am inclined to live and let live. Thanks to the USFWS for the photo. View all posts by sueleaf →. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. You are com...

Just another WordPress.com site. Monthly Archives: January 2014. A Flash of Red. January 12, 2014. We heard the unfamiliar bird cry as we arrived home from church this morning. Before I could cast about identifying the caller, I glimpsed a flash of red: a cardinal (A cardinal? That didn’t sound like a cardinal! Followed by … Continue reading →. The Cusp of Change. Just another WordPress.com site. Newer posts →. September 19, 2013. A cold front moved through town last Saturday, bringing northwest winds and welcome rain. We were away that night and it wasn’t until Monday that I had the chance to observe my hummingbird feeder. My hummers will return on May 10, 2014. This is my statement of faith in the universe. Until then, I will keep my feeder ready to host other little hummingbirds that are making the trip. They need all the help they can get. August 24, 2013.

Just another WordPress.com site. The Cusp of Change →. February 10, 2014. The great wheel of the seasons is turning and although the temperature is still below zero as I write, the birds know this. Downy Woodpeckers are now visiting my feeders in pairs– even sharing the suet block– and their larger counterparts, the Hairys, have also paired up. 8221; So familiar. Practice makes perfect. The very next day, under a stiff wind and icy temps, I heard a confident “Birdie, Birdie, Birdie! You are commenting us...

Park Punctuation: King’s Highway, Bassett’s Creek or Beard’s Plaisance | Minneapolis Park History
https://minneapolisparkhistory.com/2015/07/29/park-punctuation-kings-highway-bassetts-creek-or-beards-plaisance
Stories about Minneapolis parks. David C. Smith. Park Punctuation: King’s Highway, Bassett’s Creek or Beard’s Plaisance. Posted July 29, 2015. Filed under: Minneapolis Parks: General. One of those is wrong. One of the park property names — King’s, Bassett’s or Beard’s — shouldn’t have an apostrophe. I recently received an inquiry on one of those names and thought we might offer everyone this little quiz. The website of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board won’t be of much help. 3 comments so far.

Travel writing and fiction by women from around the world. BOOKS: Upcoming women’s travel publications. August 21, 2015. I may have returned to Bucharest just as the hot weather has broken, but it’s still hard to believe in a month or two I’ll be cosied up indoors, hot drink in hand, and in need of something to read. But temperatures will be dropping soon and the nights closing in, so with that in mind,. Has put together a list of some soon to be published travel books by female authors. Publisher’s desc...

Travel writing and fiction by women from around the world. EXPAT LIFE: My first capsule wardrobe. August 28, 2015. I have a confession: I am the worst packer. I always end up with an entirely unsuitable selection of clothes (skin-tight velvet trousers in Tajikistan), missing something vital (yes, I was the lady at the Astana Economic Forum in a skirt suit and white trainers) or packing the right things in the wrong way (should not have put that tupperware pot of leftover soup next to my evening dress).

We have an eastern wood pewee singing in our woods these summer days: Pee-o-wee (pause) Pee-o!
