I often dye and manipulate my own fabrics and threads to achieve the effect I require. I love using hand stitch but also use a domestic as well as long arm sewing machine. I recently completed and passed with distinction a City and Guilds Creative Techniques - Textiles and Levels 1 and 2 in Machine Embroidery. I am a member of the Embroiderers Guild, the Beadworkers Guild and the Quilters Guild of the British Isles as well as the Dorset Artists Group.

March 09th, 2017. Since my last post here things have moved on. I went to London on my own and saw the Opus Anglicanum. It was really interesting to see the work in the real. I've had the book for some time but you really bon't see the true scale of how tiny the stitches are and how vast an area they cover! Westpoint with Maggie Grey was a huge success and I loved every minute of it. I met lots of lovely people visiting and exhibitors too. Won't say no if I'm asked again! The End of the Year. February 16...

View From Our Hill: September 2014
http://viewfromourhill.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Friday, 12 September 2014. So, The List. Well when not galavanting along deserted beaches with a pack of dogs or watching offspring do strange things like run up mountains I have made minute headway into The List. I did first of all actually have a go at some needlefelting! I've never done this type before and I now know what it's all about. I can't say it bit me after all how exciting is continually stabbing something. Not too unhappy with my little effort. Yes it's supposed to be a reindeer. Monday I f...
View From Our Hill: A Few Little Cuties!
http://viewfromourhill.blogspot.com/2015/07/a-few-little-cuties.html
Wednesday, 1 July 2015. A Few Little Cuties! I posted about the machines on Facebook and totally forgot to blog about them! John bought me the Wilcox and Gibbs. She is 10" to the top of the wheel and sews a beautiful chain stitch like a dream. As that one looked a bit lonely we then bought the immaculate little Essex which also sews beautifully and is 7" to the top of the spool pin. And it came with this diddy, teeny child's Casige which is only 5.5" to the top of the spool pin and works too. The build i...

Saturday, 26 July 2014. Hasn't the weather been glorious? But now a little too hot for me. The thermometer we rely on for a consistant reading is in the north facing back porch in an airy out of the sun position. When that reads 33C you know it's hot! Even the early morning dog walks have been at 22C, not good for them or me. Lots of lazing around. I do keep trying to do bits but they soon get put aside. I'm sure some of you are enjoying it but the House household is struggling a little! Raw, as it were.

Thursday, 26 March 2015. On Sunday we dropped the pups off with Elsa and Mike and headed off to London City Airport, not somewhere we've flown from before. John had arranged a few days away for us in the mountains of Mallorca before the build really begins, the builder is happily staying there making a start. We landed safely and drove to a wonderful hotel in Puigpunyent, had a wander, ate dinner and planned a little for the next day. What drives them to do such an act? We fly home in the morning. I stil...
View From Our Hill: A Little Bit of Sunshine
http://viewfromourhill.blogspot.com/2015/05/a-little-bit-of-sunshine.html
Saturday, 30 May 2015. A Little Bit of Sunshine. Thank you all so much for the messages on here and by email. You're all lovely. I hope I replied to everyone but the brain has been a little foggy. This week hasn't been fun but it's gone and we now move on. I've not been too much in the mood for making things so I thought I'd go around the garden instead which always cheers me up. When we moved in ten years ago it was more or less a field with some tree stumps in it! The security lights come on when the d...
View From Our Hill: August 2014
http://viewfromourhill.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 26 August 2014. Yes, one of those dread lists. I've pulled out things that I really should make an effort to finish. Some are quite recent and some are a few years old now and need to be moved on. In no particular order: -. 1) I've just finished this cardie for Olivia and it needs buttons. It's a little bit on the large size for her at the moment but it's nice that she will grow into it some day! 4) Mystery No 2. Yes another one. She is never likely to be cold anyway. And these are without all t...

Tuesday, 4 November 2014. A Couple of Finishes. I finally finished the hand pieced hexi top. Now just to layer and quilt. It isn't a huge size, 44 x 36 inches, but I'm sure Olivia can use it in the garden or for toys when she's bigger. I've also pieced and appliqued the Lady of Shalott top. Miles of double blanket stitch which takes an age with all those points and corners! I also had another go with the keys. I carefully roll wrapped them and left them for two days this time. Much better! Over the moon ...
View From Our Hill: December 2014
http://viewfromourhill.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 30 December 2014. I hope you've had a wonderful Christmas! We had a lovely time with Elsa, Mike, Olivia and Remi. I heard from the elves that there was no Fairy on top of Olivia's tree. Every little girl has to have a fairy! I hope she manages to grant Olivia some of her wishes at future Christmas'. And of course she had to have her first stocking. I think she was happy. I also made some felted robins but I can't find a picture, but I did photograph this little adage sun I made for them. Anyway ...
View From Our Hill: Fergus and Finishes.
http://viewfromourhill.blogspot.com/2015/05/fergus-and-finishes.html
Tuesday, 5 May 2015. I've managed some good finishes this past week. Yesterday I put the final pieces of his fishing rod together. He looks rather proud of himself! His snazzy little hat. The fishing creel has his catch of the morning all safe to take home. Don't they look a yummy pair of trout? I also put the dragon bag together. Sorry for the dreadful photos, it's really dark outside even at lunchtime. Just a bit of the scale work done. And Ruger and Ellie say enough of the building work, how about us!
