Post Colonial Literature: Fall 2009: The Bus Driver Who Wanted to be God

http://www.amandas5390blog.blogspot.com/2009/10/bus-driver-who-wanted-to-be-god.html

Thursday, October 22, 2009. The Bus Driver Who Wanted to be God. I really enjoyed reading The Bus Driver Who Wanted to be God by Etgar Keret. I found his writing style to be so unique and quite captivating, and loved how each chapter or story had such an incredibly different topic to the chapter prior- it really prevented me from getting bored while I was reading! There were a couple stories (or in some cases, parts of stories) that really stood out to me. October 26, 2009 at 6:36 PM.

Sunday, December 13, 2009. Re-Defining Culture in Iraq. In doing some research for my final project, I came across this article about an art show that took place last November in Baghdad. http:/ www.cjtf7.army.mil/index.php? The theme of this art show was "New Life, New Culture.". December 13, 2009 at 3:00 PM. This article was great! I found it very interesting and eye-opening! December 16, 2009 at 5:21 PM. Post Colonial Literature: Fall 2009: Women in Afghanistan

http://www.amandas5390blog.blogspot.com/2009/11/women-in-afghanistan.html

Sunday, November 1, 2009. In preparation for our upcoming unit of Women in the Middle East, I've been doing a great deal of research on this topic. I've found the types of information and sources out there to be quite interesting, as there are so many different perspectives to be offered, from the straight facts, to the emotional string-pulling (could be a blog topic of its own), to the extreme activism and more. This article also linked to a fact sheet about women's rights (or lack there-of! Thank you f...

Middle East Inquiry and Reflection: April 2010

http://middleeastinquiryandreflection.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Middle East Inquiry and Reflection. Friday, April 23, 2010. Since I was so fond of Hosseini's A Thousand Splendid Suns. I decided to take a look at another one of his books that had been recommended to me, The Kite Runner. I found this book equally intriguing though very similar to A Thousand Splendid Suns. Also a coming-of-age novel, the story highlights the strong personal relationship between two unlikely individuals, although in this case males. A Thousand Splendid Suns. Laila, on the other hand, is ...

Palestinian Literature and more....: November 2009

Palestinian Literature and more. Thursday, November 19, 2009. After reading Persepolis I find, like I tend to find after reading almost all books, that I do not know what I think of the novel. The novel all at ones seems to address issues of education, freedom, the creation of history, gender roles, fanaticism and a search for ones self. However, a question that seems to be pervading throughout the novel is "who is the enemy? Perhaps the better question is who is not the enemy? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Postcolonial Literature: The Middle East: The Bus Driver Who Wanted To Be God

http://litpcme.blogspot.com/2009/11/bus-driver-who-wanted-to-be-god.html

Postcolonial Literature: The Middle East. Wednesday, November 11, 2009. The Bus Driver Who Wanted To Be God. Like almost everyone else in class, I really liked Etgar Keret's The Bus Driver Who Wanted to be God. At first I thought some of the stories didn't really have too much of a point, but after going back and looking again, I was pretty satisfied that they mostly all do. Mostly. As Carly. Says, though, I don't know how much some of the stories tell us about Israeli culture. Wristcutters: A Love Story.

Postcolonial Literature: The Middle East. Tuesday, December 15, 2009. I'd like to take a moment to discuss something about the literature we've been reading. We're all here trying to get an idea of other cultures through literature. But I think we're facing a little bit of a wall. I have enjoyed almost all of what we have read and watched, I think that it is all valid and useful. I am glad to have read and seen all that I have. We read Marjane Satrapi's wonderful Persepolis. While the book is engaging, w...
