Life - An American girl in Salamanca, Spain

Jueves, 22 de abril de 2010. Last post was on the 11th, but now I am back :). Let me start by saying that I thought I was alone out here. I got tired of writing personal thoughts to myself, left to drift in the floating wind. Then I got an email from a random person asking me why I haven't written in a while, and I knew I was not alone. I now suffer from reverse culture shock. I realized this when awaiting my sister in her "momma" mini van as I observed the different types of people entering and exit...

Life - An American girl in Salamanca, Spain: 11 of September

http://american-in-salamanca-spain.blogspot.com/2009/09/11-of-september.html

Viernes, 11 de septiembre de 2009. I forgot to pay my respect to the anniversary of September 11th. A day that will forever remind us that we are all mere mortals, pawns in a chess game we have no control over. September 11th is just one more reminder to me that you should never lose sight of someone you love when you are angry, you should never go to bed angry, you should always be conscience of the fact that today may be the last day you will ever see them. Life - An American girl in Salamanca, Spain: Time flies, time to write

http://american-in-salamanca-spain.blogspot.com/2009/09/time-flies-time-to-write.html

Viernes, 11 de septiembre de 2009. Time flies, time to write. I have recently neglected my blog, I guess I have been slugging around Salamanca dying of heat exhaustion and gaining weight, at least I think I gained at least a kilo or two this summer. Today I want to mention the difference in Spanish mentality and American. I think I have discovered it, I think I know the root of my problems now. It is called "Ambition" versus "Comformity". What is Salamanca to me? Salamanca is summed up in one word for me...

Life - An American girl in Salamanca, Spain: Getting Hot in Salamanca

http://american-in-salamanca-spain.blogspot.com/2009/06/getting-hot-in-salamanca.html

Lunes, 1 de junio de 2009. Getting Hot in Salamanca. I personally think it is idiotic, but have learned that I cannot speak logically to them. I have tried: "the flu is caused by a virus, not from air conditioning" only to be faced with unamused arguments. *white flag, white flag*. Is that what you want? I must admit, my stomach suffers no rebuttles after having drank coffee before my meal and I certainly have never fallen ill after "suffering" the nice cool environment of an airconditioned building.

Life - An American girl in Salamanca, Spain: Which direction to run?

http://american-in-salamanca-spain.blogspot.com/2009/05/which-direction-to-run.html

Martes, 5 de mayo de 2009. Which direction to run? Things I think I need:. A life with variety, someone who is willing to try new things and activities, leave the house, smell the spring air, play a board game, fly a kite. anything. A sense of advancement, hope for the future, knowing that you are essentially going "uphill" in regards to your professional life and knowledge. I need to nurture something, a dog, a kitty, a baby of my own someday. I need to know that one day that will come.

An American in Pune

An American in Pune. Friday, July 26, 2013. I originally started up this blog as the third in a series of blogs I have written since moving to India. The first was American-in-Calcutta, then American-in-Delhi, and now here at American-in-Pune. I have gotten a lot of pushback since posting my "We've Moved to Pune" post on American-in-Delhi, so I will be returning to posting on that blog only. To that extent, since moving to Pune, I've been working on a cool new e-commerce initiative called iPlace Connect.

American in Thailand

Follow me in my gap year abroad. Friday, December 16, 2011. 8 Days away from Christmas Eve and and the only indication of festive spirit to be found in the sunny, dry, and rural town of Ubon Ratchathani is a 4-foot plastic evergreen welcoming shoppers at the City Mall's entrance. A small sign reading, "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year" stands outside of the front of the building, but every time I read it, I think to myself, " is this a joke? Is it really Christmas time? The same street vendors continue...

An American in Tunis

An American in Tunis. I came to Tunis to study Arabic at the Bourgiba Institute in Summer 2005. These two months are my first time abroad in the Arabic-speaking world. September 20, 2005. Hey, I'm back in the states now, and want to post some very final reflections. First, though, I want to point out that I got my film developed, and there are now new pictures on the entries that describe getting lost in the medina. Traveling into the sahara. Getting caught in the sandstorm. And Tunisian wedding customs.
