divine trauma: New Statesman - Joe Public v the volcano
http://divinetrauma.blogspot.com/2014/12/new-statesman-joe-public-v-volcano.html
Wednesday, 17 December 2014. New Statesman - Joe Public v the volcano. This is an older draft I didn't quite get around to publishing. The short version? To make humans take care of the environment, use totalitarian techniques. And yes, it's Zizek. New Statesman - Joe Public v the volcano. It's a bizarre spectacle to imagine. But is the larger point that for all our good will about the environment we will ultimately need a Big Other to be accountable to? I'd like to think not. We dont need no science.

divine trauma: Supply and Demand After Disaster
http://divinetrauma.blogspot.com/2011/01/supply-and-demand-after-disaster.html
Monday, 17 January 2011. Supply and Demand After Disaster. The economic model of supply and demand is often applied as justification for changes in price. In the years immediately prior to the 2010 financial crisis this was evident in the price of commodities like aluminium and copper as against the global stocks of those materials. It's no surprise to anyone that as the global stocks diminished, market prices rose. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). To find my story games blog, my hobby photography, an...

divine trauma: Hallmark Christianity
http://divinetrauma.blogspot.com/2014/12/hallmark-christianity.html
Tuesday, 16 December 2014. And I don't mean "hallmark" like the craftsman's marks on silver, I mean the greeting card company. Greeting cards and calendars have reduced Christianity to mere sentimentality with an accompanying sunset. The message of the gospel becomes a feel good moment, a teary reminder of a fond memory, a sentimental shadow of the message of life. The next time you see a calendar sale you'll see these. Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.". We dont need no science.

divine trauma: October 2014
http://divinetrauma.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, 23 October 2014. Links to this post. Wednesday, 22 October 2014. The likely candidate is the Christian confession of faith. It says Jesus is Lord, Jesus is the Christ, Jesus is the Son of God. Those confessions were in opposition to the requirement of the day to say that Caesar is Lord, or to deny that Jesus was more than merely human. Beliefs drive actions. And actions provoke reactions. The famous "What Would Jesus Do? Our persecutor in the first century was the Roman Empire. That Empire ...

divine trauma: November 2014
http://divinetrauma.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Monday, 17 November 2014. I think I've been skirting around this one for a long time, never really putting it out there what I suspect is true of sin and sinfulness. So let's go for it. We can't help but put ourselves at the centre of the universe because for all we know, we are. So what is sin? Sin is the epiphenomenon of consciousness: selfish indulgence. This, I think, is an explanation of sin that doesn't rely on myth or parable, but which derives from what we know about the human brain today. Whatev...

divine trauma: Good is bad is good
http://divinetrauma.blogspot.com/2012/10/good-is-bad-is-good.html
Sunday, 14 October 2012. Good is bad is good. Continuing my earlier thoughts about why the gospel isn't all good news, and staying in Mark 10, is the story of the rich young man. It's a terrible story. The man has worked hard and been faithful to the Torah. He's tithed and maintained a personal holiness code ever since he was young. And has become rich. He has every right to feel entitled to his possessions. He's blessed! Yahweh has fulfilled his promises and rewarded the righteous with good things.

divine trauma: August 2014
http://divinetrauma.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, 17 August 2014. It's well attested that there are contradictions within the bible. Or at least that's the conclusion that most armchair critics come to. I think that the problem is not one of logical contradiction, but one of textual form. Links to this post. Monday, 11 August 2014. Kindy Theology: The Prodigal Son. What did the older brother do next? Like a lot of parables this one poses a challenge of unfinished detail to the audience. The Good Samaritan challenges the hearer to be a good n...

Tabletop Manifesto: July 2014
http://tabletopmanifesto.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 22 July 2014. Maybe it's just the pieces I have. Maybe it's where my design brain is at the moment. Either way, today's concept build is an insectoid tank. I call it a concept build because I'm still working with the ways that pieces can join to look like robot joints. MF0 frames are probably only evocative of actual joints, and they let us do something that resembles a giant fighty robot. Short of building one with a Mindstorms kit (ooh! Quick, do a kickstarter! Tabletop Manifesto: Current Campaign
http://tabletopmanifesto.blogspot.com/p/current-campaign.html
This page is actually intended for the gamers in my group. We're in a second season of a Diaspora campaign and the amount of information accruing about the setting is getting larger every session. Just to help the administration, this page is a summary of what we know about all there is. I've drawn this with a different convention to the normal Diaspora maps. It made it easier to grasp. I've also added the information for each system so you get a sense of what we initially rolled. Centre of the universe.
