a midwestern tale

I moved to iowa for the corn. Friday, March 18, 2011. I went bowling with Rachel, Ryan, and Matt a few weeks ago. We used 30 Rock names- I was Lemon, Rachel was Maroney, Ryan was Dot Com, and Matt was Grizz. I may in fact be the world's worst bowler. My all-time low score was in 4th grade with a 26. I bowled a 25 on our third game that night. How sad. It was fun, though! Pizza at the Wedge before bowling. My strategy was to run and hurl the bowling ball. It didn't quite work out for me. I moved to iowa for the corn. Tuesday, February 15, 2011. Chris and I went hiking at Elachee for his birthday/New Years Eve. He had no idea what we were going to do that day, so it was a fun surprise. I packed us a picnic complete with a birthday brownie and birthday candle :). The Big Oak Tree," as my campers call it. The Sugarbeat: February 2010

http://thesugarbeats.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, February 28, 2010. I went over to my parents' house tonight to help out with some grunt work for an ad campaign my Dad put together. As you can see, the ad is for an oral rabies vaccine for wild animals. My Dad designed the poster I am showcasing. I think we rolled up close to 500 posters tonight, and a lot of assembly remains to be done. Good luck, guys! This is what I did while John painted. The jury is still out as to whether it's any good - we haven't cut into it yet! Monday, February 15, 2010.

The Sugarbeat: June 2010

http://thesugarbeats.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 28, 2010. Here's John's latest project. He painted our formerly white and boring beanbag toss boards (corn hole boards for you Mid-westerners). The mascots are actually stickers. I was shocked to come home to this project under way in my living room, but overall very pleased with the result (no red paint on the carpet, phew)! Sunday, June 20, 2010. Hope that all of you dads had a very Happy Father's Day! Tuesday, June 15, 2010. A month and a half in 500 words or less. Wednesday, June 9, 2010.

The Sugarbeat: Paint it Black!

http://thesugarbeats.blogspot.com/2010/11/paint-it-black.html

Wednesday, November 10, 2010. Some of John's latest handy work. He painted the stairs and the door black! I wasn't totally on board with the concept, but now that it's done, I really like it. That's usually how these painting projects go :). November 10, 2010 at 5:38 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Firm Outing in Atlanta. My quiche and pumpkin and walnut and coconut chocolat. The Sugarbeat: Weekend Update

http://thesugarbeats.blogspot.com/2010/11/weekend-update.html

Sunday, November 7, 2010. So, I had a difficult hearing on Friday. I won, but had to be pretty aggressive in my cross-examination of the opposing party. I was only doing my job, and the woman was awful, but sometimes it still makes me feel bad to really call someone out. Let's just say, I wouldn't want to be cross-examined! One couple kindly brought their Chiminea fireplace, so we were able to stay toasty. It got down to 29 last night! There was live music, and it was a lot of fun. Firm Outing in Atlanta.

Monday, March 29, 2010. John and I had a really nice weekend. On Friday night, I got together with a bunch of friends at my friend Madeline's house, and we had a wonderful time. It was so nice to see everyone! Tuesday, March 23, 2010. Monday, March 22, 2010. Tuesday, March 2, 2010. It's 1:30 on a Tuesday afternoon, and I'm at home watching the snow fall! The Sugarbeat: Johnny's 30th Birthday

http://thesugarbeats.blogspot.com/2010/10/johnnys-30th-birthday.html

Saturday, October 23, 2010. On October 2nd, we hosted a "30th birthday /John is starting his own law firm" party for John. We had a great turnout and a lot of fun! We celebrated with good friends, a ton of food, a keg on the back porch, and stacks of John's new business cards here and there. My mom was my right hand lady in preparing for the party. Cooking is so much easier when there's someone in the kitchen with you! Here comes the cake! The dessert table - missing some items in this photo.

The Sugarbeat: The Cumming Fair

http://thesugarbeats.blogspot.com/2010/10/cumming-fair.html

Saturday, October 23, 2010. So, I volunteered through the Junior Service League at the Cumming Fair the other week. Apparently, the Fair needs additional help each year, so it basically pays community volunteers through their organizations to work shifts. My job was to collect tickets for the sky buckets. The only interesting "carny" I saw was a 7.5 month pregnant lady who was smoking. Doh. I really like the second one- you should frame it! October 24, 2010 at 3:42 PM. The Sugarbeat: Baby Shower

http://thesugarbeats.blogspot.com/2010/09/baby-shower.html

Tuesday, September 14, 2010. Mary and John were instrumental in helping us get ready for the shower, and I can't thank them enough. I only regret that we worked them so hard while they were here. We definitely owe them a leisurely visit next summer. They've earned it! John (my John) had the idea to plant African Violets in Vlasic pickle jars (which picture a stork on the label) to give out to the winners of our shower games. John was in charge of purchasing and planting our prizes. One frame at a time.

A Midwestern Mom

Friday, February 18, 2011. Well, let's get right to it.Spring is upon us and it is time to shed our slumber and come out of hibernation. What to do first? The possibilities are endless, even for us Midwesterners. But we should probably start out slow. What do scuba divers get if they come to the surface too quickly? We don't want to get a case of "the bends" in our quest for a life outside of our lovely homes, so let's talk museums. Check them out at these websites:. Labels: Early Spring ideas. I am an u...

a midwestern new yorker

Friday, August 12, 2016. I've written about a hundred posts in the past few months, in my head. It's hard to know where to start describing my life here sometimes, when everything is still such a new experience. But Melody A helped jolt me a bit and I decided I would write a little post (of interest possibly only to myself) about Swiss laundry. I've never paid to have my laundry done, that's always seemed like something only 1%-ers did. Magical air blowing blue thing. Thursday, February 4, 2016. No, not ...

In the garden with David P. Offutt - The Gastronomic Gardener. Wednesday, October 19, 2011. The Garden is put to bed for the forever winter. As gardeners, we intuitively know there is a time for renewal. There is definite life cycle, sprout, seedling, production, decline, then finally off to the compost heap.
