Wednesday, March 9, 2011. February was the month I turned 30. The month I’d been in New York for two years… and then out of no where, except maybe old age, it was the month Ada died. She died shortly after a stroke which brought her to hospital, where she remained sedated until she passed on. A candle now burns in her apartment, but her spirit is definitely gone. Let me tell you, skiing when you have a slopeside condo is the way to go. Not only do you get to leave the apartment and ski right on down the hill, you also get to take a nice, leisurely lunch - during which you can take off all that uncomfortable clothing and equipment. But best of all? The free holy soap. Ah, the satisfaction of improving one's home bit by bit. The most recent bit? A neutral yet un-boring CB2 rug. This after falling in love with the lamp I bought just a few months ago.

Phaidon Store. 100 Wooster St, between Prince and Spring. As usual, I was not let down. With two specific items in mind and a few other vague gift ideas, I wandered in and out of several shops. One item, from the Phaidon. So on I strolled, up Mercer Street to Houston, where I found what I was looking for about 30 seconds after entering Crate and Barrel. Again, everyone was friendly, festive, and helpful - they found me an extra small box that was perfect for the gift and sent me on my way. Such a normal ...

Luckily the piece of wood missed, and there was no one directly infront of the window when it shattered, but had I been two steps infront of myself I would have been hit, and somehow felt like I'd cheated death. Monday, April 4, 2011. I’ve been staying in Ada’s apartment on my own ever since she passed away. It was strange at first; not wanting to sit in her chair, impulsively disinfecting things before I touched them. Then slowly tidying up. Sorting through a life-time of clutter, and the weird questions… “what do we do with her teeth? Thankfully Dad flew over and stayed for five days to help sort her affairs out. Monday, November 14, 2011. There has been a legal document taped to the door on 14. St where my writer’s space is. Apparently the city is trying to sue the owners of the massage parlor on the first floor. It says that two under cover cops went there and were offered manual stimulation for $50 a pop. Strangely the owners and all inhabitants of the spa have disappeared, and no one here knows where they have gone. November 14, 2011 at 2:17 PM. Tonight is the eve of what I have affectionately nicknamed Hell Week. Anyway, enough of the doom and gloom. With my first semester of B-school nearly behind me - just 9 classes remain!
