Life With Mrs. E : Examining Conflict a PYP Perspective
http://lifewithmrse.blogspot.com/2014/11/examining-conflict-pyp-perspective.html
Thursday, November 13, 2014. Examining Conflict a PYP Perspective. How We Express Ourselves. People use various forms of expression in times of conflict. An inquiry into the ways in which we discover and express ideas, feelings, nature, culture, believes and values; the ways in which we reflect on, extend and enjoy our creativity; our appreciation of the aesthetic. So how do you teach conflict and expression to children? How do you make it global and yet make it relevant to them so they can take action?

http://lifewithmrse.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 30, 2013. It's all beginning to come together now! So I have spent the past two days completely immersed in my room and getting it all ready. Looking at the pictures now it doesn't look like I did anything. I swear I did! Be warned this is a looonnnggg post and kinda picture heavy! I wish I was 100% done so I could post all the cutesy pics I see my fellow teacher bloggers do- but alas I was not that patient- let's be real! The room I inherited also came with a million and one books- SCORE!

Life With Mrs. E : Teaching Kindness
http://lifewithmrse.blogspot.com/2014/11/teaching-kindness.html
Thursday, November 13, 2014. Nothing can make our life, or the lives of other people, more beautiful than perpetual kindness.". This idea of kindness has never been more prevalent in my building that it has been this past few weeks. Some staff members noticed the stress that was consuming so many of the teachers and they decided to take action! It started with #fantastic5 find 5 people and give them a postive shout out on instagram, twitter, or other media. This week, inspired by this. A Collaborative Ef...

Life With Mrs. E : August 2014
http://lifewithmrse.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 21, 2014. Summer is winding down- I have just a few days left to soak in the last few days with my children and try (most likely not complete) to organize my house before returning. I love the first few days of school, the smell of new pencils- the nervous anticipation of both the teachers and their new students, and the tearful goodbyes from parents as they entrust us to care and teach their children. I started with Patrick Allen's Conferring. Now some people may not like the flow o...

Thursday, January 30, 2014. Get to the POINT! Using the book Nonfiction Mentor Text. As my guide I set out to do just this. After looking at these questions we then used Venus. By Seymour Simon book (used earlier to teach text structure) to determine what were his big ideas and what essential questions did he use that guided his writing. I reminded students again and again throughout the process that we write with the reader in mind! Here is their thinking after reading the first few pages of the book:.

Life With Mrs. E : September 2014
http://lifewithmrse.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, September 18, 2014. Teaching is like a Pinball Machine. SoI was recently told that teaching is like a pinball machine you just bounce from one thing to the next. Now, as much as I do not like that idea that we are constantly under pressure to produce kids who test well or have the weight of assessment on our shoulders, I can say that that simile completely describes this year! So the pinball analogy may be spot on- if anything we are going to be bouncing around from one child to the next. M...
