an american in belgië

An american in belgië. I had a really nice Mother's Day weekend and I hope all you Moms out there did too. Mine started with this beautiful bouquet from Ross with a sweet card that made me cry because that's what I do :). Then Ross arrived in Hasselt for the weekend and had the idea of visiting the Paul Smith exhibit at the museum here. This fashion museum is one of the "attractions" in Hasselt and we've never even visited it before! This wall of art is from his personal collection. Then on to Ross's apa...

an american in belgië : May 2015

http://anamericaninbelgie.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

An american in belgië. En El Camino - Sète. As we drove south from Annecy (pronounced - an si), France toward the Mediterranean coast, I took a few shots along the way. Lush, green hills in southern France. This is the town of Sète [pronounced. More or less :). It looked so laid back, I was ready to stay! Canal to the harbor. The water was really that blue. We stopped on this beach for a walk. Plage. Is French for beach. Baleine. I collected some sand here. It's the darkest of my collection so far.

an american in belgië : March 2014

http://anamericaninbelgie.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

An american in belgië. We had a very nice weekend of good food, nice weather and celebrating . . . We had our stoic neighbors over for dinner to celebrate Ross's birthday. Thank you, Anse and Esther for knowing how to properly pose for a photo. After nearly five years, we give up on the other three! Then we really celebrated in Brussels . . . In this area called Quartier Saint Catherine. We even stayed one night in this cute little hotel that's been around since 1896. Naturally, Winslow was there. Beside...

an american in belgië : January 2015

http://anamericaninbelgie.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

An american in belgië. As I type this, I can hear Jim, down in the kelder, trying out his very own handmade fiddle. And it sounds pretty damn good. One of these days, perhaps he will let me film him so you can hear it too. There really are no words . . . On Friday night, Jan 23, we had our first snowfall of the year. I guess that umbrella just wasn't big enough for the both of them. On the way to the park. Park bench. But of course you knew that. But he had fun there too! Okay, the umbrella was. These ar...

An american in belgië. I Spy Something Gray. Ah, a weekend to remember . . . remember never to repeat, that is! I'm just kidding. It actually got better and better. This past weekend we (me, Jim, Ross and his friend Valentine - pronounced Val un teen. Went to the Belgian coast. The main reason for going was to add to my sand collection, but also for a little sun. Of all the sand I've collected, I had not collected any from our very own coast. I can check that off my list now. Not to be deterred, we set o...

an american in belgië : Never Again!

http://anamericaninbelgie.blogspot.com/2015/04/never-again.html

An american in belgië. This past weekend the weather was nice so we swung by Brussels and picked Ross up, then headed to the Sunday flea market in Waterloo. While some vendors have pretty good stuff, they also like it too much. Meaning there are no bargains. It was nice to get out in the good weather and we had lunch on a sunny terrace, but we may seek out another flea market for future bargain-hunting. This is not my "never again" story though. That also wasn't my "never again" story though. March Wind,...

Just To Prove You Can…. While rehashing my time and life in Louisiana, someone asked me if I regretted any of my decisions to drop such a pleasant life and head to Europe. I hesitated, as I didn’t want to give an answer immediately. Of course, I said “no.”. I don’t believe in regrets – they’re not good for much. I miss a time and place that no longer exist in reality. 8221; is quite irrelevant. That’s what life is about – experiences; and they’re fleeting, but always anew on the horizon. 8211; Ross E.

To Spread Hate…. I’m not known for my lack of opinions. I tend to have them, and I tend to share them. I think it’s fortunate that I am from and currently live in a place that allows me that luxury – a luxury denied to too many in this world. I also have the right to believe what I want, think what I want, harbor what feelings I may, and live my life in peace. So why is it that others see fit to deny them from me? How bad, how good does it need to get? How many losses, how much regret? I don’t unde...

Kately Days: Dear Merritt,

http://katelydays.blogspot.com/2015/04/dear-merritt.html

There's the "making up words to get your point across" heart ("Momma, I 'successed' at falling asleep! Which is not to be confused with the "I had a stroke and can't say words" heart ("Dury Judy? After you learned about my civic duty). In addition to your bounty of hearts, you're brain continues to grow so rapidly and vibrantly that we're not sure how it still fits in your head. Recently you asked, "Why do we live on the bottom of the earth? You better watch out, you better not cry from a raging double e...

Kately Days: Dear Merritt,

http://katelydays.blogspot.com/2013/09/dear-merritt.html

In the five months since you last received a letter, we have purchased a house, made it a home, and allowed a television crew to document the process for a national audience. On a scale of zero to solid, I give it a shaky six as far as excuses for not writing go. While we may not have been writing to. You during the hiatus, we've definitely been writing about. So we present here a sort of laundry list of the arbitrary stuff that has fallen out of your mouth in the last 154 days. I asked if you want to go...

Kately Days: Dear Merritt,

You are four years and one week old. We can not begin to comprehend this. How have you completed four years of life and entered your fifth? Does Not. Compute. Why did I pick you? And you leaned in close and grinned a giant grin and said, "Was I cute? Oh, man. Were you ever. And you still are. I suspect you will probably always be cute. You do this thing where you nuzzle into our necks and whisper the most wonderful things. Thank you for this delicious meal.". I'm so glad to be here with the mommas.".

Tonight we bid adieu to 2013 with one of your favorite meals (BRINNER! And tomorrow we'll wake up and begin 2014 together. Because let's be honest: We're not staying up to ring it in because you'll be awake mere hours after midnight. Hopefully we won't have a repeat of Christmas, where you came to our room at 1:45 am and whispered-yelled, " MOMMA, I'M DOIN' THE PLAN! Come straight to our room in the morning. Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da: Isn't She One-derful!?

http://obladida.blogspot.com/2013/09/isnt-she-one-derful.html

Wednesday, September 11, 2013. Today is N.G.'s first birthday! It feels to me like she has been with us for so much longer than a year.like it's always been the four of us. She seems less like a baby every day and while it's fun to watch her become a toddler, it's still hard to see each stage come and go. Happy Birthday, Norma Grace. I know Dad and Fraz would agree with me that everyday is so very much better for having you in it. You are so loved and I hope you know how much we just enjoy you!

Tuesday, June 25, 2013. Catching Up- 9 Months. Well, the last time I did a blogpost about N.G. she was five months old. Please don't go back in the blog archives and see how often I did an update on Frazier during his first year. About a week and a half ago, Norma Grace was 9 months old! Though this picture is a grumpy bath picture she does LOVE bathtime. You put her in the water and she really gets after it. She splashes like crazy and cruises from one end of the bathtub to the other! Even though she's ...

An American in Australia | Things I wish I would have known before coming to Australia

An American in Australia. Things I wish I would have known before coming to Australia. Let’s Take A Moment…. June 5, 2010. As I have been blogging now for around three weeks, I though it would be appropriate to reflect on how this blog has been going for me (aka part of my assignment is to reflect on my blog). For about two weeks I felt that I had writer’s block when writing these posts. How in the world could I have writer’s block on a blog that are my own thoughts about whatever I want? An American in Belarus: English Language Fellow Progam 2007-2008

Population traveled to an overseas destination, excluding. From 1989-1999 (Office of Travel and Tourism Industries). Thursday, April 3, 2008. At 8:00 am sharp, my phone rang. It was someone from the U.S. Embassy in Minsk. It seems as though our "conference call" with the State Department had worked some magic during the night! This time they had changed their tune, they "could" send a car for me and my luggage, but the downside was I had to be ready to go at 4:00 pm the next day! Now the real fun began.
