Tuesday, February 19, 2013. Diverse Reads 2013: Reviews. I've had an amazing streak of good reads lately. Here are some mini-reviews, in the order I read them:. THE BROKEN LANDS by Kate Milford. Did you know that Brooklyn's name may have been derived from the Dutch word for fractured, or broken lands? And if that hasn't c...

Beautiful, but no story," "Hard work, gave up, too much else to read," "Too offensive," "Characters aren't realistic, tension not believable," "Terrible writing," "So much telling! No characterization, depth," "Too dark and artsy," "Too angsty, no action.". Books I bought after reading a free Nook sample: 10. It was also a year of read...

Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Some of you are probably thinking, "Life changes? But Anne, your life is all about changes! You just moved to North Carolina! I feel like I'm in a boat, watching the horizon change in front of my eyes, and madly trying to batten down the hatches, pull in the sails, and prepare for everything that's to come. But of course that's not possible. Rather, I should be enjoying the sea wind in my hair and settling down for a crazy ride. Posted by Anne M Leone. Links to this post.

http://critically-yours.blogspot.com/2013/10/letting-go-in-life-and-writing.html
Tuesday, October 1, 2013. Letting go in life and writing. It should come as no surprise that I'm a bit of a control freak. And a little opinionated. Especially when it comes to kids and literature. So this past week, starting a new job as a middle school Language Arts teacher, has been full of ups and downs. And while I haven't done any personal writing recently (don't worry, I'll get back to it! I'll let you know how it goes. Have you ever found letting go helped your writing? Posted by Anne M Leone.

Tuesday, December 24, 2013. Eight best books of 2013. My favorite books of 2013 highlight the diversity of my reading this past year. Not all of them are THE BEST BOOKS I EVER READ OMG! Types, but all of them were wonderful, thought-provoking reads that I'd happily recommend. Actually, I already have. My students got a sneak peek at this list before they left for winter break. In the order I read them, here's the best books of 2013:. 1 The Rook by Daniel O'Malley. 2 The Broken Lands by Kate Milford.

Wednesday, December 15, 2010. Reading stats for 2010. Several years ago, I was at a B&B in Inverness, Scotland. I don't remember how the conversation started, but the owner (a woman in her sixties) explained she had kept a journal listing every book she'd read since she was in high school. She had a whole shelf of the journals, years of book titles and dates. I was crazy jealous. And the best part? Which I also use and love), it's entirely private. I wish I'd started it earlier! Some of my reasons for no...
