Sunday, March 14, 2010. The Senior Research Blog Project. All seniors at ACT are required to conduct a research project for their graduation. The following project was designed to target skills they would encounter in a college environment, especially regarding online research. It's most helpful for me to do projects along with my students so I can catch the potential pitfalls and provide a strong model of what I'm looking for. Here is a summary of the guidelines that the students were working with:.

Why Does White Move First?: Personal Reflection
http://shahmaat.blogspot.com/2009/03/personal-reflection.html
Friday, March 6, 2009. I picked the topic of why does White move first because that has been one of the rules in chess that I never really understood. All of the pieces are the same, so why do the black pieces have to go second every time? What does it add to the game to have it this way? It makes me think of this psychologist named Dr. Franicis Cress Welsing. March 8, 2009 at 6:08 PM. Thanks for sharing your post. Here is my review. 1 Is the post the appropriate amount (300 words)? I never really trippe...

Why Does White Move First?: Credible versus Non-credible sources
http://shahmaat.blogspot.com/2009/03/credible-versus-non-credible-sources.html
Sunday, March 8, 2009. Credible versus Non-credible sources. I know it is a non-credible source because:. 1 The website has a ".com" address, which means that anyone could have purchased that website. 2 There are more than five ads on the page. 3 The website is not focused on my topic, chess history. 4 The author does not have a degree or credentials in chess, so I don't know if I can trust his opinion. I know it is a non-credible source because:. 3 The section that's marked "learn". I know this is a cre...

Why Does White Move First?: What Do I Know, What Do I Want To Know?
http://shahmaat.blogspot.com/2009/03/what-do-i-know-what-do-i-want-to-know.html
Wednesday, March 4, 2009. What Do I Know, What Do I Want To Know? I know that the white pieces traditionally move first and it's been like that for a long time. I'm not sure for how long. I know that both white and black pieces are pretty much the same, so it's hard for me to figure out why it's important that the white pieces go first. I would like to know if it has anything at all to do with race. I would also like to know did people in Africa play chess, because I know a lot of Arabic people played.
