andy from embsay's bike and run adventures

Andy from embsay's bike and run adventures. A record of what I get up to whilst cycling and running round the Yorkshire Dales. And elsewhere. Wednesday, 21 May 2014. Not written much recently - new job (commuting on my single speed in Birmingham most weeks - fun), but also a bit of trepidation about the first couple of weeks of May - Fred and Etape week, to be accurate. Actually 7am was useful, as it gave us a a clear idea of our "total time" as opposed to ride time that I have on my Garmin. Gareth has s...

andy from embsay's bike and run adventures: Another super low (well, no) mileage week

http://andyfromembsay.blogspot.com/2014/02/another-super-low-well-no-mileage-week.html

Andy from embsay's bike and run adventures. A record of what I get up to whilst cycling and running round the Yorkshire Dales. And elsewhere. Thursday, 13 February 2014. Another super low (well, no) mileage week. Lots of travel with work this week - London, Glasgow and Burnsall - combined with a couple of nights of beer has meant no time on the bike since Sunday. I might get out briefly tomorrow, but as I'm off skiing again on Saturday I may leave it and get back on it when we come back. Bobby T - ex-pro...

andy from embsay's bike and run adventures: January 2014

Andy from embsay's bike and run adventures. A record of what I get up to whilst cycling and running round the Yorkshire Dales. And elsewhere. Monday, 20 January 2014. Low mileage, good quality (and a new toy). However this week I was not going be anywhere near 100 for the working week - I did a very pleasant, and reasonably brisk, 25 on Thursday, then I revisited the Gargrave/Hetton loop on Friday, to give me 60-odd for the week. We even managed a half-decent chaingang down the Grassington Road, with a S...

andy from embsay's bike and run adventures: Getting better with the weather

http://andyfromembsay.blogspot.com/2014/03/getting-better-with-weather.html

Andy from embsay's bike and run adventures. A record of what I get up to whilst cycling and running round the Yorkshire Dales. And elsewhere. Friday, 21 March 2014. Getting better with the weather. And have hung on for a few miles before dropping back. Even with the "ride of shame" back to the second group you still get a seriously quick (average 20mph ) 30 mile ride, and home before 11am. We used a "two stop strategy" as after the battle from Hawes to Ribblehead we were in need of a brew - this inspired...

Andy from embsay's bike and run adventures. A record of what I get up to whilst cycling and running round the Yorkshire Dales. And elsewhere. Thursday, 2 February 2012. Well that was January (and a bit of February). A month on from my new year resolution to get fit, and what's happened. I ran for 88 miles and I cycled for 270. I did three spin classes. Like a girl. And soon it'll be March! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Embsay, Yorkshire Dales, United Kingdom. View my complete profile. Rich - Richard Hinsle...

Bob Wightman: July 2014

http://bobwightman.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Monday, 7 July 2014. Le Tour de France. Well it's finally come and gone. Wow! I'd never spectated at a Grand Tour before so didn't really know what to expect. The forecasted number of spectators was 2 million over the two opening days (the initial estimate of actual figures as I write this was 2.5 million). Some ten thousand mad Kilnsey their temporary home. Some of the early crowds on Kidstones. The publicity caravan on its way past. Not that kind of herb! The king of the mountains needs to go on a diet!

Bob Wightman: Jealous Guy (or Gal)

http://bobwightman.blogspot.com/2015/02/jealous-guy-or-gal.html

Wednesday, 25 February 2015. Jealous Guy (or Gal). Last year I bought myself a new mountain bike, hence all the posts about mountain biking! I was looking for a hardtail to use to get in to remote Munros and the like. In the event I spent (considerably) more than I had originally planned and didn't use the bike for my original purpose. The bike handles 95% of the off-road riding I do, the remaining 5% is at trail centres, but I can muddle through or apply rule #5. Proud owner of a new bike! Wanted: some ...

Bob Wightman: November 2014

http://bobwightman.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Saturday, 22 November 2014. A Milestone and err, something else. So what of the something else? Well last night was a pretty awful night and as I was descending the lane down to the house I began to realise that the brakes weren't slowing me down! I wasn't getting faster but I certainly wasn't slowing down, I was probably doing between 15 and 20Kmh. Our lane is about 25% and there's virtually no flat ground before the house. So why had the brakes failed? Friday, 7 November 2014. Our earlier ineptitude re...

Bob Wightman: October 2014

http://bobwightman.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Saturday, 11 October 2014. The evenings are definitely drawing in now that we are past the autumn equinox which leads to a quandary: hit the turbo or sort out the lights and head outside. Last week I nipped out for a quick blast round the local bridleways to check that the lights worked after a summer's holiday. This Thursday Cath was going to go for a road ride but the weather looked a bit iffy with a strong breeze and showers blasting through so I persuaded her to go mountain biking instead. One point ...

Bob Wightman: September 2014

http://bobwightman.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 16 September 2014. MTB Endurance - sort of. Most mountain bike rides are pretty short, last week's ride in the Lakes for example was just 37Km for example, they feel a bit more intense as the terrain isn't conducive to rolling along but that of course is part of the attraction. With Cath away riding on the Seven Stanes I'd free rein in getting out for a longer ride. The next section hadn't made much sense when I had looked at it on the map as it looped in and around Gisburn Park (which is a rath...

Bob Wightman: December 2014

http://bobwightman.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Sunday, 14 December 2014. Most sports require gear and the participants in those sports tend to accumulate and compare gear. Now these aren't gear reviews with their "this only weighs xxx grammes" and "You can really feel the extra strength in .", they are reviews about gear. While makes and models might be mentioned, that's more to stress a particular point than praise or damn the kit. Crinkle Crags and Bowfell from Waterhead. A moment's silence . You don't get horizontal rain. In a country where the li...

Bob Wightman: YD300 Kit

http://bobwightman.blogspot.com/2015/07/yd300-kit.html

Sunday, 5 July 2015. I've edited the previous post on the Yorkshire Dales 300 and moved all the stuff about kit and strategy here. So this post will discuss what I took and why I took it. The forecast was for a little bit of everything: sunny with a bit of breeze on Saturday then rain early Sunday becoming sunny again. I hoped to get away on Sunday morning before the rain arrived as putting wet bivvy kit away is neither nice nor easy. H) = goes in handlebar bag. F) = goes in frame bag. B) Moon rear light.

Bob Wightman: June 2014

http://bobwightman.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 4 June 2014. On the Other Side. Regular readers will no doubt have noticed that I've ridden quite a few sportives (timed road rides) over the last few years, this weekend was different - we were the organising club. With the Tour de France coming through Skipton in just five weeks' time there was a desire to have a local event to tie in with it. Sunday morning and it's a 5am start! We hadn't even got the inflatable start banner up before the first of the riders was on the start line! I was ten...

Bob Wightman: Long days in the Saddle

http://bobwightman.blogspot.com/2015/03/long-days-in-saddle.html

Saturday, 28 March 2015. Long days in the Saddle. We've used the Settle to Carlisle railway before to get to a distant starting point and then ride home. One time we rode back from Kirkby Stephen via Buttertubs and Fleet Moss, another we rode back from Garsdale Head on the Pennine Bridleway. Those next kilometres were hard work! And I was quite glad to turn uphill(! And start to get some help.At the summit the route didn't head towards Malham but away from it, down Stockdale Lane. In dry conditio...Back ...

Doprawdy? Ja nie szanuję was? Nasada ...
