This is my recently finished Medieval Ensemble! I love it. A lot. It consists of an Escoffin (the heart shaped headpiece) and a Coteharide/Kirtle hybrid, which is the dress. It was all made and worn by me. I have a write up on the dress here. And a write up of the escoffin here. Posted 9 months ago. Well it’s kind of finished. There is a lot wrong with it (mostly the skirt shape and underthings) so there will be some altering before it’s really wearable. Posted 9 months ago. Of Ana de Mendoza, who was a ...

Some fancy photos of the hat I made a couple weeks ago! I’m so ridiculously pleased with how this came out, I love it and I love wearing it. This has really motivated me to make more historical headpiece in the future, even though they are time consuming and scare me a little. I think they really complete costumes! I drafted/made it without reference and it is completely sewn by hand. A full write up will be on my blog. Posted 1 year ago. Reblogged this from doxiequeen1. Reblogged this from doxiequeen1.

I’m so pleased with this. The bodice fits. The hat makes me feel fancy. It’s made from taffeta so it makes a swishy noise when I walk. What more could you want out of a costume? I based this costume off of this portrait. Of Ana de Mendoza, who was a very interesting sixteenth century woman. There are lots of beautiful paintings of her but the simplicity and colors in this one really stuck out to me and I decided it was time I made something similar. Posted 1 year ago. If you have any questions I will do ...

Angela Clayton's Costumery and Creations. Author Archives: Angela Clayton. Fabric Haul and Shopping Adventures. This post was supposed to be a simple fabric haul…but then I got a bit chatty. And I wanted to include some shop reviews and photos from my recent trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. So it’s some sort of shopping adventure/review/haul hybrid. And unlike most of my hauls, the majority of these material weren’t purchased in NYC! Of fabric, but they have a good variety of materials and relativ...

Began work on the first of my ikea curtain dresses! I actually started on this at 11, and had the dress completely finished around 4. But i’m spreading out the progress pictures a bit. The bodice was super easy, two pieces of fabric with darts sewn into them, and arm holes finished off with bias tape. The design is based off of summer spaghetti strap dresses from the 1950s. Angela Clayton's Costumery and Creations. Making a Gothic Butterfly Crown. Fabric and Flower Haul →. Making a Fall Flower Fairy, Part One. Sorry for my lack of updates! I had my wisdom teeth out and my recovery wasn’t fun. It took me almost two weeks to get back to sewing, and then I got distracted by new projects…. But now i’m focused again and updates should be back to the regular two times a week! This time I’m going with an Autumn theme, using flowers from Ashlands fall collection. Fall flowers are p...

Made some more buttons today! These are just decorative ones for the front of the bodice, so they were easy. But I also had to make twenty for the back of the bodice. And six for the skirt. And that isn’t including the ten on the sleeves. I’m all buttoned out right now - but at least they look good! Posted 1 week ago. Working on sleeve cuffs today! And altered it to fit my arm. Small buttons that I covered with matching fabric. The same closures will be used down the back of the bodice and skirt. The beg...
