The huge fish, which eclipses Dave Lavender’s existing record of 19lb 5oz 8dr, caught from the Middle Level in Cambridgeshire in March 1998, was taken by 19-year-old James Benfield from the River Severn. Wednesday, November 8. England greats to take on the world once more. FORMER England manager Dick Clegg is to give some of the country’s match fishing greats of yesteryear one more chance at glory, as plans for a Veteran’s World Championships were unveiled this week. If the proposal takes off then over-60s could once again fish for England, opening the door for former greats like Bob Nudd, Mark Addy, Denis White, Ian Heaps, Kevin Ashurst and others to once again fish together on the international circuit.

Thursday, November 9. River Thames produces huge perch haul. AN amazing haul of big perch, featuring no fewer than 16 fish over 3lb, has been caught from the River Thames this week. Hampshire’s Simon North and Kevin Woodthorpe topped their amazing 32-fish haul with two huge specimens weighing 4lb 9oz and 4lb 1oz that they caught on small floatfished livebaits. Saturday, November 18. Thames produces massive perch catch. THE River Thames can be something of a daunting challenge to the newcomer but Steve Aley had few problems overcoming the mighty waterway during a recent perch fishing session. The Tring-based big fish man plundered 16 fish over the 2lb mark, topped by a magnificent brace of 4lb 2oz and 4lb 4oz and another six over 3lb, while his boat partner Kevin Woodthorpe, star of last week’s AT story, returned to bag a staggering 19 fish over 3lb.

Tuesday, November 21. JUST one cast in the right spot was all Duncan Charman needed to land his biggest grayling of the year a fantastic 2lb 14oz specimen from the River Itchen in Hampshire. Wychwood Consultant spotted the fish, which he initially estimated it to be around the 3lb mark, while walking the banks of the southern chalkstream, before tempting it by trotting two red maggots on a size 14 hook under a 2.5 swan loafer float.
