Anyone would think we were in the tropics! T-shirts up on deck! We have to confess.we were posing for the photo! It was beautifully sunny, but still pretty darn cold. We feel like we've made it. Possibly because we are surrounded by pack ice? The ship makes the most terrible grinding noise as we cut and push our way through the sea ice breaking up. There was a young penguin called Tux. Who was feeling that 'Life really sucks'. He was down in the mouth. Coz he yearned to go south. But he just didn't have the bucks! Now Tux the penguin was of sound mind. But he found himself in a bit of a bind. He lived in the city. Which was a great pity. Coz there weren't many of his own kind. Meanwhile Geoff and Cath booked a trip. On a Russian ice-strengthened ship. Tux heard this with glee. And begged 'Please take me! So they stowed him away, just for kicks.

Thar be whales captain! We are surrounded by minke whales in the ice channel. What a tremendous sight - we feel very privileged. Now that is a close-up of an Orca! A bit too close for my comfort - being a penguin! But how lucky for us to be treated to a 2 hour whale show at the back of the ship while parked in the ice at Cape Evans. Oh my goodness, a real wildlife treat. I am in awe of these regal Emperor penguins, hanging around near our parked ship. I just HAVE to get my photo taken with them! I hope R...

The first day of the new millennium and here we are off on a big adventure to Antarctica! None of us got much sleep last night. After celebrating New Millennium's Eve, we managed to catch 2 hours sleep before arriving at Tullamarine (Melbourne Airport) at 6am. I tell you what - this Golden Wing Lounge setup is pretty good.
