Global Cooking: May 2015
http://sarasglobalcooking.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Worldwide cooking adventures and experiments. Thursday, May 28, 2015. Every year, there is a mango season and the big mango tree in our yard gets filled with hundreds (thousands? Of mangoes. Seeing as how Anthony does not like fruit, that makes for a lot of mangoes for me to eat. I pick them and share them with as many people as possible, but there are mango trees everywhere, so lots of people don't need any more either. This is how much I have dried so far this year:. Friday, May 22, 2015. Mangoes, cube...

Global Cooking: Baking With Geoff
http://sarasglobalcooking.blogspot.com/2015/08/baking-with-geoff.html
Worldwide cooking adventures and experiments. Wednesday, August 12, 2015. While our friend Geoff was visiting us, we fired up the clay oven and baked ridiculous amounts of bread (it always helps to do this when there are extra people around - two people can only eat so much bread before it goes bad.). There was also a very beautiful pizza, though it took some careful finagling to get it to go into the oven without falling apart. And a variety of breads - pita, oat, and cracked wheat.

Global Cooking: Ugandan Mushrooms
http://sarasglobalcooking.blogspot.com/2015/07/ugandan-mushrooms.html
Worldwide cooking adventures and experiments. Wednesday, July 8, 2015. The pictures above show the mushrooms before they are ready to eat. Once they open up more, like below, they are ready. Since I still had some canned Parmesan cheese (from my parents), I decided to make the fettuccine alfredo that my mom used to make when I was growing up, with mushrooms and other random vegetables instead of peas, and shell pasta instead of fettuccine. It was really good and a special treat! 2 c uncooked pasta.

Global Cooking: Evaporated Creamer Milk Pumpkin Pie
http://sarasglobalcooking.blogspot.com/2015/06/evaporated-creamer-milk-pumpkin-pie.html
Worldwide cooking adventures and experiments. Friday, June 26, 2015. Evaporated Creamer Milk Pumpkin Pie. Well, because I didn't want to make a crust, I just made the pie filling and baked that. It actually wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as the real thing (this could partly be because of the lack of crust and whipped cream, but it could also have to do with not using real evaporated milk). Oh, well, either way I had my Thanksgiving dessert in May. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Stomping 'Round Stumptown: October 2008
http://miriam-phx2pdx.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 20, 2008. Sellwood Riverside Park looking north to downtown Portland up the Willamette River. My reading tree at Gabriel Park. Gabriel Park Community Garden. Lake Oswego Public Library. I spend a lot of time here on the internet and renting free DVDs. Tryon Creek State Park. This fairy-tale forest is only 1.5 miles from my house and has lots of winding trails. It also has a nature trail that has rotating art installations. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Stomping 'Round Stumptown: March 2009
http://miriam-phx2pdx.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 12, 2009. Turning 30 is Sunny and Bright. Because this was such a notable birthday, I decided that I should get out of town and commemorate the occasion in grand style. Going back to Phoenix was the logical choice, considering it was about 40 degrees warmer and I have loved-ones there to celebrate with. Of course, when I arrived, a visit to Cherry Blossom Noodle Cafe was inevitable. Eating mountains of sushi with my parents was just the homecoming I was hoping for. Flying back to Portland...

Stomping 'Round Stumptown: Sauvie Island
http://miriam-phx2pdx.blogspot.com/2009/06/sauvie-island.html
Monday, June 22, 2009. Just a short 20-minute drive in North Portland is a rural riparian area called Sauvie Island. It’s a small stretch of land surrounded by rivers, known for its agriculture and wildlife. One side of the “island” is bordered by the Multnomah Channel, which hosts a village of house boats, and the other side is bordered by the Columbia River, which has pleasant sandy beaches. I took a walk around one of the small lakes on the inner part of the island, and then went strawberry picking.

Stomping 'Round Stumptown: November 2008
http://miriam-phx2pdx.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 2, 2008. The Columbia River Gorge and Mt. Hood. I started by traveling along the Columbia River through the Gorge. The river borders the north side of Portland, across which you can see the state of Washington. As you wander out of town, there are several vistas where you can enjoy the view. Then I turned away from the Gorge and headed south toward Mt. Hood. I traversed farmlands and orchards and enjoyed the warm fall day, although the leaves weren't really changing color yet. View my co...

Stomping 'Round Stumptown: Vernal Outing
http://miriam-phx2pdx.blogspot.com/2009/04/vernal-outing.html
Thursday, April 23, 2009. Later that day I visited a tulip farm nearby to witness their annual festival. I was surrounded by fields bursting with color. There were vibrant kaleidoscopic layers of flowers being admired by crowds of people. I also appreciated all of the Dutch cultural references. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Then, VERY early in the morning I decided to go for a drive. I watched the sunrise over the Columbia River Gorge in the silence of dawn. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Annie and Taylor Vos.
