Alpha Blue: October 2010

http://anyroadwillgetuthere.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 31, 2010. Who knew crawling could be so hard? Reading is fundamental. How many times have I heard that phrase without really thinking about it? I don’t know any adults who can’t read. Have I met some without knowing it? Can anything be more than awesome? I better check that out. Saturday, October 30, 2010. A Perspective on Reading. Sunday, October 10, 2010. Emergent Literacy: New Perspectives (Teale and Sulzby). These leaps (yes, they are leaps to me) have also been accompanied by a notic...

Alpha Blue: Say it loud! Voicethreader and proud.

http://anyroadwillgetuthere.blogspot.com/2011/02/audio-on-voicethread.html

Sunday, February 27, 2011. Last night I had a real positive experience adding audio comments to a voicethread. No major surprises. Just a straightforward process that yielded quality results. While it may not be the best solution for all online projects, I'm sure that I will look to use it often when collaborating with teachers and students. Two requests: A mobile app and the ability to upload audio files instead of always recording straight to. Other than that all systems a go. View my complete profile.

Thursday, March 17, 2011. Math Blorgg One Hundred Sixty-Nine (t=13). Do you love math? Good Then please go directly out and purchase How To Solve It. By George Polya. It's a very old book, so you will look like a true math nerd if you carry it with you. (Not sure what the benefits of this might be, but who knows, eh? If your still not sure, then check it out from the library, like I did. I think you'll really like it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Baba Bihari Ji Kathak.

Saturday, January 29, 2011. Literacy Project 1 - Analysis. An organism producing and reproducing thing eat’s, sleaps, drinks and dies. Oganism’s need requirements such as food, water, oxegn, and sleap. The functions of Organisms are eating, sleaping, breathing, and reproducing. The difference is needs and requirements, because living things need these, dead things once needed these and no longer do. And nonliving things never needed these things because they were never alive. This lack of fluency forces ...

Sunday, November 28, 2010. Math Blorgg Eighty-one (t=9). Last time we were in Math class our instructor told me about a cool trick for measuring the size of an oil slick on the surface of a body of water. Obtain an image of the oil slick from above. Be sure that the entire oil slick is framed just inside the edges of the photograph, and that you know the scale of the image as it compares to the actual oil slick. Here is what your image might look like:. Count the number of points that fell within the oil...

Chicken Fingers: Math Connections

http://chickenfingersteaching.blogspot.com/2011/01/math-connections.html

Friday, January 28, 2011. Finding solutions to problems and those solutions inspiring new questions (problems) reminds me of what we have been discussing in our science class. We did our eggsperiment a couple weeks ago, wrote our conclusions- bringing in facts from our tests- then built on that by continuing our inquiry. Our results lead us to a whole new set of questions, a "well, what will happen now. I find it very interesting to begin to see these connections and to see how we can not only "double di...

This will help students in spelling vowel patterns in their words and recognize them in their reading. This will help M by giving her practice with vowel pattern spelling and will be engaging to her since there is an artistic component. 332 Spells accurately in final draft. Chicken Fingers: Math Path

http://chickenfingersteaching.blogspot.com/2011/02/math-path.html

Tuesday, February 8, 2011. I've been thinking about this past experience a lot lately in reference to what we're learning in our math class. Would it have been "better" to have students share their different ways with the whole group? Are those students benefiting from being told to do it a certain way versus having the option to? And what about tests that ask for a specific style? Hmmm more to ponder. March 2, 2011 at 9:03 AM. What is typical in this classroom? In other lessons, a teacher wants to empha...

Chicken Fingers: December 2010

http://chickenfingersteaching.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 3, 2010. Anthony Bourdain and GapMinder (aka Math Reflection). After our first math class, I came rushing home to show my husband and our roommate the GapMinder graph and all the cool stuff you could show with it. Both were politely interested, but pretty quickly went back to their conversation about Jeep engines. Flash forward to now, the end of the quarter. We were also able to compare other countries and both of us were fascinated to see that El Salvador was tracking right along with ...

I like your use of art as a way to offer students a moment of quality down-time within the lesson. Giving subconscious brains a chance to process and internalize will show tangible results, I think. Wednesday, February 9, 2011. My literacy buddy has many of my own similar interests! She read to me her writing about her favorite times and I read my Where I'm From poem. These two readings inspired quite a bit of conversation!
