Appalachian Tours: About
http://appalachiantours.blogspot.com/p/about.html
Scenic rides in and around West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. My husband and I are fortunate enough to live in one of the nicest regions on the East Coast, the Greater Appalachian Valley. Technically speaking, the Great Valley is a gigantic chain of valley lowlands that follows the Appalachian Mountains, paralleling the East Coast from Maine down into Alabama. Our preferred mode of travel while touring is a motorcycle, but folks in cars can enjoy these drives, too. In fact, some of t...

Scenic rides in and around West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Saturday, January 5, 2013. I hope this post finds you all happy and well. And that you all had a happy holiday season with your families. All is well here in Virginia. Winter finally hit and it's been cold. The last riding I did was on the day of my Santa ride. Since then, I've either been housebound or traveling on four wheels. Sorry for any inconvenience. Speaking on inconvenient. I turned off the comments. I was get...Scoot...

Road Trip | Stayonthegas.com

Here is my trusty camp site! Well I pulled it off and I have to say that was the fastest I have ever fixed anything I think. But hey i’m getting there, one day I will be able to leave right after work with everything in tow. Even my tool roll has everything for trail side repairs now, so I am close! I’m usually good but with the husky and trailer garaged so far from me I tend to not find a lot of time during the week to take care of it. What do you leave for last second on a ride? Filed under: Dirt Daze.

Gear at full throttle but I can live with it. What I can’t live with is this. Those are the cases on my 2004 Husky TE450. I JUST got it back from the top end rebuild and two rides later, BOOM. I was kick starting it and I heard this loud THUNK. When I looked down I noticed the grand canyon forming on my engine. Albeit much faster then the natural process that formed the real one. I must have one heck of a kick. So what I am supposed to do in this situation? Have you ever seen this before? I know all abou...

20 of 29 – rainbows at Skogafoss. While touring the Icelandic countryside, the planets aligned and left me with a perfect photo opportunity – capturing my two favorite girls under a rainbow at the Skogafoss waterfall. 8211; 25 of 29. But it just made everything that much more fun! I couldn’t think of a better steed for the trip as it made every single turn that much more exciting. This is a picture from it. Of course afterwards advil was my best friend for the next week! This is so far my greatest motorcycle trip yet I need to do it again sometime. Or maybe go somewhere else like cross country on the same bike! I have a whole ride report for it too i’ll have to post it some time. What is your favorite trip? Another co...
I Made It | Stayonthegas.com
http://www.stayonthegas.com/2012/03/i-made-it
A full report is coming soon but I have to just post this picture of me after the enduro. I have never done anything so hard in my life. If you took the hardest twistiest mountain bike trail you can think of then multiply by 10 and put a dirtbike on it instead of a bicycle that still wouldn’t be as hard as this. That is the look of success and defeat all rolled into one. Filed under: Dirt Daze. March 20, 2012 at 8:06 am. Looking forward to the report. March 21, 2012 at 5:15 pm. March 21, 2012 at 5:53 am.
Lean-off: February 2012
http://lean-off.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Wednesday, February 29, 2012. I received an e-mail from my neighbor while we were away. He kindly let me know that my ZX blew over in some heavy winds and was leaking gas. When I arrived home I dove right into CSI mode - looking over the impacted side of the bike for damage. Blinkers, foot peg, clip-on, mirror, body work. First, a rear turn signal:. Second, a brake lever mount (and really, the whole rearset):. Why did the brake pedal even make contact with the asphalt? And third, some minor body work:.
Happy Father’s Day | Stayonthegas.com

Happy Father’s Day. If it wasn’t for my awesome dad I probably wouldn’t have found motorcycles so early in my life. He taught me all the knowledge he had about motorcycles when I was younger and got me started on this crazy addiction. As previous readers have seen he even rides a sport bike now! Happy Fathers Day Dad! Has your dad influenced your riding life? If not who has? June 18, 2012 at 1:48 pm. You were lucky to have someone show you the “ropes”. Riding the Wet Coast. What ARE they looking at? While looking through photos, I happened upon this one taken of Pimmie and I up on Grimselpass in Switzerland. I have no idea what we were looking at, or why it was so captivating that both of us were locked in our gaze so deeply that we didn’t notice the attacking dinosaur. Perhaps we were simply reflecting on how lucky we were to be riding around this stuff:. Filed under: road trip. And now we are dirty again……. – 29 of 29. Well we made it! Can you do 29 in 29? I rode to work in the blistering heat on wednesday since my car was in the shop. Little did I know that my new job has some motorcycle only parking. And it looks like I had all the spaces and the shade to myself. I felt rather special having my own private spaces today. Almost like the CEO of the company, or employee of the month! It makes me feel good to see that motorcycles get a little bit of respect for the space they can save here in NY. You don’t see it very often…. Filed under: General Junk. As Gl...

New Riders and New Steeds. Meet the farm bear and his new ride! What do you think of these things? I rode it a bit and it’s like riding a snowmobile, it is a lot of fun. It has it’s place in the community in my opinion and I can’t wait to go on some longer trips with the guy. Two wheels though will forever be my speed. Filed under: Long Island. This saturday i finally manned up and put the battery in and went for a ride. Well I really like girl scout cookies. Do you have some tricks for commuting? It sti...

The Appalachian Canon
Discovering the roots of Appalachia through a lifetime of experience and discovery. Wednesday, June 29, 2011. From Ireland to Wales and England. We were able to secure tickets for a Literary Pub Crawl which took us to some of the favorite watering holes of the Irish literary giants. The guides acted out some scenes from various works and gave us some local history. My suspision is that for most in the group the drinking rather than the literary commentary was the focus of the night. Monday, June 27, 2011.
