Artichokes and Lemonade: November 2009
http://artichokesandlemonade.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, November 26, 2009. Hope you are all surrounded by family, friends, and good food! I'm off to start the roast beef. More on that later! Posted by Amy J. Wednesday, November 18, 2009. Pimento Cheese: My Latest Food Obsession. In Fernandina Beach has sparked my latest food obsession. Lucky for you, you don't have to live in the South to eat it, and it couldn't be easier to make. Cheddar cheese, shredded. Only mayonnaise in my opinion! Jarred roasted peppers, chopped. Fresh cracked black pepper.
Artichokes and Lemonade: The Happy Tomato Cafe ~ Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island
http://artichokesandlemonade.blogspot.com/2009/11/happy-tomato-cafe-fernandina-beach.html
Tuesday, November 17, 2009. The Happy Tomato Cafe Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island. The first week of November was very exciting for me. My friend Jane (from Cakebook. Noon rolled around and we were in search of somewhere to eat. While on the way to a place on 3rd Street I wanted to try, our noses were treated to the most heavenly, smokey BBQ smell. It was a good thing the place I wanted to go to was closed for the day, as it gave us no choice but to follow our noses back to the Happy Tomato Cafe. The san...
Artichokes and Lemonade: April 2009
http://artichokesandlemonade.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, April 19, 2009. Spring Certainly Smells (and Looks) Sweet. This time of year is absolute heaven. Not too hot, the humidity isn't too heavy, and the sunsets are stunning. Angel Trumpets, Variegated. Ginger, Jasmine, Dogwood, Gardenia, and Magnolias are in bloom, once the sun sets, the scents. Are the strongest - giving us more of an excuse to go for an evening stroll. Posted by Amy J. Yet Another Sarasota Icon Has Disappeared. Posted by Amy J. 1 large tbsp prepared vinaigrette. 2 tbsp olive oil.
Artichokes and Lemonade: Spicy Boiled Peanuts at the Palace Saloon ~ Fernandina Beach
http://artichokesandlemonade.blogspot.com/2009/11/spicy-boiled-peanuts-at-palace-saloon.html
Wednesday, November 18, 2009. Spicy Boiled Peanuts at the Palace Saloon Fernandina Beach. Centre Street on Fernandina Beach is the very well preserved main corridor of this lovely Victorian seaside Island. One of our favorite places to visit is the Palace Saloon. The Palace Saloon proudly boasts itself as being Florida's oldest continually operating saloon, serving suds under that name since 1903. If you like hummus, chances are you will like boiled peanuts. They reminded me a bit of hummus, only in ...

Sunday, May 31, 2009. Places I Eat: Mar Vista, Longboat Key. Last Sunday James and I went out to Mar Vista Dockside Restaurant and Pub. On Longboat Key. Located on the Bay in a rustic former house, Mar Vista definitely gives you a taste of "Old Florida". The outside seating area is bliss. There are tables under cover with nice flans to keep you cool, and there are also tables outside under the light strung trees, feet from the shore line. We were told that there would be a 45 minute wait that night, but ...

A great pair of carved wood chairs with tufted backs for $30! That's $15 a chair, folks. They've even got casters on the front legs. Nifty! Riviera in Flight in Citrine. Sultana Lattice in Citrine,.

Thursday, November 25, 2010. So I know I promised part deux of my garage sale scores today, but my camera died as I was trying to download my pics and I'm too lazy to hunt down some batteries at the moment. Sad, I know. But in my couch-sitting-beer-drinking-long-weekend-celebrating-laziness I ran across something rather surprising and thought I'd share. Check it:. I know, right? Posted by beauty meets budget. beauty meets budget: February 2011
http://beautymeetsbudget.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Monday, February 21, 2011. She clicks, she scores! Just wanted to share this little gem I got on Craigslist today for $30. Sure, in my dreams it was a whole set of campaign furniture, but since up until now I've been a campaign virgin I'll take what I can get. It's marked Drexel and it's in great shape structurally. Can't wait to shine up the hardware and paint this piece a fun color! Stay tuned for the "after" pics! PS Progress has been made on the wayward chair project! Posted by beauty meets budget.

Sunday, October 24, 2010. Back to the blogosphere. Since I was recently added to somebody's blog roll (Thanks, Sammy. So I think I'm gonna give it another shot. After all, I've recently turned the corner and started a new life (with a new house to pretty up), sans boyfriend. READ: this is a good thing. I hope to share some of the process of bettering this bachelorette pad of mine. PS In the meantime, thought I'd throw a little autumn-esque boudoir action* your way, courtesy of West Elm. beauty meets budget: I love lamp (garage sale score No. 2), plus bonus scores
http://beautymeetsbudget.blogspot.com/2010/11/i-love-lamp-garage-sale-score-no-2-plus.html
Sunday, November 28, 2010. I love lamp (garage sale score No. 2), plus bonus scores. At long last, the photo of my second garage sale score from a couple weeks ago. [cue fanfare]. Picked up this sweet old hand painted lamp for $12. I could tell the shade was of good quality, but it's in poor condition so I will need to redo or replace. But the moment I saw this lamp I thought it would look pretty cool with a funky Anthro style topper. Shade – $98. Nice wood frame – $2. Asian cork art – $3. Drop me a line!

Saturday, January 15, 2011. Wow What a day! I ventured out this morning with the lovely and talented ReNew ReDo! On a quest for bargains, and we were not disappointed. I'll let her share what she wants about her own scores (I will tell you they were good), but here's what I turned up. Item #1 – Cabinet/Buffet. 20 I know, right? Item #2 – Settee. How much, you ask? beauty meets budget: Emily's Home for Wayward Chairs
http://beautymeetsbudget.blogspot.com/2011/02/emilys-home-for-wayward-chairs.html
Thursday, February 10, 2011. Emily's Home for Wayward Chairs. Anyone who knows me even reasonably well knows I have a bit of a . hmm, chair fetish? As such, I certainly can't resist a seat in need, so I was more than happy to pick up this spindly little homeless thing I discovered by the curb while I was running one evening. She's got potential, no? Am planning on restyling her not-so-flattering wood tone with some paint. Gloss black is always a classic choice. Or perhaps a punchy color? Drop me a line!

148x148mm, 128 pages. Understanding attitudes that hurt and heal. Jane and Terry Hielman. Belonging to the thistle family, the artichoke flower's soft heart is hidden beneath tough, prickly leaves, much as the human heart is hidden behind attitudes which, at times, are just as tough and prickly. Through practical exercises this book shows how to strip away these tough-and-pricklies and replace them with positive attitudes, allowing the precious human heart to grow towards its full potential. I go I grow.

Friday, July 9, 2010. Recipe Review: Southern Living's Okra and Corn Maque Choux. The heat of the summer has left me craving lighter meals, and this month's issue of Southern Living Magazine. Delivered some great inspirations! The "Summer's Glorious Trinity" article of recipes using tomatoes, okra, and sweet corn had us positively salivating! I faithfully followed Southern Living's recipe. I used Rodger Wood. Polish style smoked sausage, which is made here locally in Savannah. This sausage gave a nic...

Wednesday, March 26, 2014. In case you need any more encouragement to grow some of your own food, here's a passage from the always insightful, ever inspiring Wendell Berry:. Remember, you don't need a huge yard or a traditional garden space to grow your own food. Find any spot with some sun and a little soil (this can be a container, of course) and you can grow some food. Don't have much sun? Need more of Mr. Berry's inspiring words? Read more of his thoughts on The Pleasure of Eating. Thanks again to al...
