a Scrap of Life

Monday, March 11, 2013. Teach a Class, Take a Class. I have a couple of fun adventures coming my way in the near future. First, I'll be teaching a class next weekend at my LYS (local yarn shop), Trish's Crafty Corner. The class is learning the two-colour brioche stitch, also known as slipped-stitch colourwork. The pattern I'll be using is the NewsPrint Cowl by Haven Leavitt. Here's one I did for last year's Ravellenic Games in Patons Silk Bamboo:. I foll owed the pin to her incredible blog Elvie Studio.

a Scrap of Life: March 2011

http://ascrapoflife.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, March 30, 2011. Boye Needles Options Cables = Love! I've been so excited to share this, I've been going nearly mad waiting for this tiny little package to arrive in the mail for the last month! My very first set of interchangeable knitting needles was a brand new package of Boye Interchangeables. I found on ebay for just $10. I used those pretty exclusively for a year or so, until I decided to give into the peer pressure (ie everyone raving about them) and try out Knit Picks Options. Of how he...

Thursday, January 31, 2013. My New Craft Room! After 3 weeks of painting, furniture building and organizing, my new craft space is 99% finished and ready for crafting. Lots of photos ahead. you've been warned! First side of the room, Before:. Those white shelves on the ledge still need to be put up on the wall to the left of the window. And I need to figure out what I want to do for curtains. And the other side, Before:. Now for some details (I warned you, there are a lot of photos! I got a lot of the fu...

a Scrap of Life: March 2012

http://ascrapoflife.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, March 15, 2012. On Sunday I had the privilege of photographing my friend Susie's brand new baby girl, Veronica. I've photographed quite a few older babies, but this was my first time with a newborn, and I'm so pleased with how the photos turned out. More importantly, the parents loved them, too :-) Here are a few of my favourites. This one, I just could not decide whether I preferred it in colour or black and white. Friday, March 9, 2012. Can't wait to get my first baby in there! View my comple...

a Scrap of Life: November 2011

http://ascrapoflife.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Saturday, November 5, 2011. Some new project bags. A few more of the knitting project bags I've made over the last few months:. Thursday, November 3, 2011. That's the name of this funky new yarn I bought recently. I used the entire skein and got this fabulously long scarf out of it. The pattern is the Mile-a-Minute Scarf #2. The only thing that could have made this yarn better, would be if there was more than just the one section of the awesomely bright green. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

a Scrap of Life: April 2012

http://ascrapoflife.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, April 26, 2012. I recently fell in love with this awesome Anthropologie bag knockoff that I saw on Pinterest, and I finally got a chance to do some sewing yesterday and thought I'd give it a shot. The pattern/tutorial is from Emily at The Boy Trifecta. So I rummaged through my stash and found some light brown corduroy I'd been saving for the express purpose of making some sort of bag out of it. Here's my finished bag:. I know, it doesn't look that bad, right? Somehow, despite multiple measuring...

Making Skinny: February 2010

http://makingskinny.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, February 27, 2010. I reached my first mini-goal today! The scale read 179lbs this morning! It's the first time I've seen the 170's on the scale since I was in University when I was 18 years old. It also officially takes me out of the Morbidly Obese BMI category. Who ever thought I'd be excited to be just plain old obese? I also went out last night and bought those Old Navy jeans that are on sale, in size 16. They don't fit just yet - I could barely button them (but they did button! I can't deci...

Making Skinny: January 2010

http://makingskinny.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, January 30, 2010. I know that the loss would slow down considerably after the first week or two, but I was still expecting something. Even a 1/2 pound would be enough to keep me feeling motivated. Now I just feel deflated and want a bowl of ice cream LOL. I guess this is where writing everything down will come in handy. I'm going to have to look at my calorie intake and figure out if I'm eating too much, or not enough, or what. I need to see that scale move next week! Tuesday, January 26, 2010.

Monday, March 14, 2011. I'm feeling really optimistic today. I'm not sure why, since this past week has been pretty pitiful as far as wight loss goes. Corban has been sick and running a fever off and on over the last 4 days, which means I haven't done much of anything besides taking care of him. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Dog Named Banjo » Protoquilting

http://www.dognamedbanjo.com/2012/02/01/protoquilting

I recently turned a bunch of random scraps into a protoquilt. The one above is a new bookshelf runner for my craft room. This particular protoquilt was quite inspired by this lovely baby quilt. I found myself enchanted by pebble quilting and thought I should give it a try. I love the way it turned out! Instead of holding it on my lap, it’ll be serving to keep the grit and water off of my bookshelf from these here plants. New year’s resolution: Learn how to take great care of a jade plant! I think a previ...

Making Skinny: April 2011

http://makingskinny.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, April 27, 2011. Good News and Bad News. I seem to have trouble finding (making? The bad news is that Jeff is leaving next week to go back out west for work. Besides missing him like crazy, and taking on all the responsibility with the household and kids, it means that my gym time will be seriously restricted due to child care constraints. My mother-in-law will watch them a couple times a week, which will help, though. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. 4) Healthy BMI: 127 lbs.

Making Skinny: August 2011

http://makingskinny.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Saturday, August 27, 2011. Clothes started being a little tighter. My old jeans were worn out and I had to break down and buy another pair of size 18's. Meanwhile the size 16's I was thisclose to fitting into are still sitting in the drawer. All of this, and I still was feeling lazy and unmotivated and depressed about my weight. I pointedly avoided the scale. Which I've found to be a great motivation in the past. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Thanks for visiting my little corner of the internet, where I ta...

Making Skinny: May 2012

http://makingskinny.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Wednesday, May 23, 2012. Why is it so hard to stay motivated, and so, so easy to make excuses? And so on, and so forth. I should have been using this blog as a place to vent about those things and to try and motivate myself to keep going even in the face of difficulties. Instead I avoided it. Maybe this time, I can change that. Maybe I need a goal to work towards? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Wednesday, June 24, 2009. I want to share something that is very special to me. It's a beautiful piece of writing by a beautiful woman, Maya Angelou. Pretty women wonder where my secret lies. I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size. But when I start to tell them,. They think I'm telling lies. It's in the reach of my arms. The span of my hips,. The stride of my step,. The curl of my lips. I walk into a room. Just as cool as you please,. And to a man,. The fellows stand or. A hive of honey bees.

A Scrap of Disney

A Scrap of Disney. I like to scrap, and I like Disney. Thankfully, I can do both at the same time. In 2005, I started "swapping" with fellow Disney scrappers on LaughingPlace.com. And in 2006, I started swapping on the DIS Scrapping and Swapping Boards. These are the projects I've completed. I'll try to include a materials list if I remember it. Oh, you can click the photos for larger versions. Friday, November 19, 2010. Gosh, now it's been over 2 years since my last post! Friday, October 24, 2008. Disne...

A Scrap of Time

Sunday, August 10, 2014. Wednesday, August 6, 2014. App Happy Wednesday brings another experiment with watercolor effects. This time the app Aquarella was used to give this photo of a fish sculpture (from Pixabay) a more abstract and watery feel. The Aquarella setting used was style bloom number 14. The final image was then opened in PSE 12 and texture, text, bubbles and threads were added to create a scrapbook page. The materials used to create the page are all by Anna Aspnes.
