I love to tell the story . . .: August 2013
http://momentsinmada.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
I love to tell the story . . . Tuesday, August 20, 2013. I guess in my mind, that’s my self-image. The picture of myself that I think of as what I look like, and sometimes, to some degree, as me. Well, something interesting always happened to me on bush trips living in Mada. I lost that picture. On trips out, I could easily go a week without looking in a mirror, without ever being confronted with my physical appearance. But the best part was, no one cared. Since I’ve been back in the US, though, I&...

Robyn's Nest: January 2014
http://robynsnest-robyn.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, January 30, 2014. Rain and bushes and bulbs. We have actually had a bit of rain today! I know, it seems that most people think it rains all the time here in the Pacific Northwest, but it really doesn't "rain". Heavy misting, yes; actual "rain", not so much. I went out this afternoon to put out some birdfood, and I noticed as I was walking around that the ground is wet enough that it squishes like a sponge! I say "not fashionable"! Tuesday, January 28, 2014. Well, let me tell ya! We've had a Chr...

Robyn's Nest: September 2012

Wednesday, September 26, 2012. The Lord is my shepherd. Hello again, friends. It's been quite a while since I last posted here. I wish there were a better reason than the truth, but to be quite honest, I've been dealing with a lack of motivation and needing some time to just be quiet. Now I know, for some, it's hard to imagine me being quiet! I'm ready to start posting again, though. And all because of part of one Scripture verse that I spent some time meditating on this morning. The Lord is my shepherd;".

I love to tell the story . . . Thursday, September 13, 2012. Youth trip to the beach! The youth at our church are on vacation from school, which has been given me some special times to hang out with them! A few weeks ago, we took a little overnight trip to the beach, about an hour outside of Tulear. Getting ready for this was quite a production—I think we had enough tools, cooking paraphernalia and bedding to last us weeks! We grilled out the night we arrived, which was delicious! A few weeks ago, I was ...

Snyders in Mada: September 2014

Wednesday, September 3, 2014. This Is How We Do: The First Day of School. 1 September 2014 will go down in the history books as the first day my schooler spoke her first French words. She couldn't remember them by the time we got home and tried to pass off a movie quote with a French accent as French words, BUT I was witness to her legitimate French utterances when I picked her up from school. Except there wasn't time to talk to her teacher. Because the car wouldn't start. And we had to walk....As we wal...

Robyn's Nest: February 2012
http://robynsnest-robyn.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Friday, February 17, 2012. Which beautiful breed of horses can have their lineage traced back to the stables of Spanish kings? This is the latest writing assignment from K. Great job, isn't it? Tuesday, February 14, 2012. I know that for all intents and purposes, I need to become less like Martha. And I've tried; believe me, I've tried! Thursday, February 9, 2012. I've come to notice that "respect" is not as common as it once was. I've seen blatant disrespect to elders and disrespect to those in a po...

Robyn's Nest: April 2012
http://robynsnest-robyn.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, April 22, 2012. This will probably be a somewhat disjointed post today. I have so many emotions running through me that it's a little hard at times to sort. I'm still waiting for the Chief to get a job, and to say that's been stressful, is putting it mildly. God has His work cut out for Him right now with me on that particular issue! I miss having something to catch the dust bunnies! Thursday, April 5, 2012. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Western Washington, United States. I'm the wife of a recently...

I love to tell the story . . .: Horontany
http://momentsinmada.blogspot.com/2013/02/horontany.html
I love to tell the story . . . Saturday, February 2, 2013. Recently here in Tulear I had a new experience—an earthquake ("horontany" in Malagasy)! It was a small one, but we definitely felt it! It happened in the middle of the night, and so the situation was the talk of the town the next day! The most interesting part was everyone’s theories on what they thought was happening as they were awakened by the slight shaking . . . Our guard thought it was our dog, Maverick, under his bed, shaking it. Getting M...

Snyders in Mada: September 2013
http://snydersinmada.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 17, 2013. Iza ny anaranao chips? In official Malagasy is, loosely,"What is your name? Literally, it is "Who the your name? But that's neither here or there. What's funny about this particular phrase is how Waverly chooses to use it. She doesn't know much Malagasy except some basics that Chandler and I have taught her: greetings, please (and thank you and excuse me - all one word in official), and how to ask for someone's name. Oh, and "Avia! So, as a last "hurrah" as the Snyder family ...

I love to tell the story . . .: March 2013
http://momentsinmada.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
I love to tell the story . . . Friday, March 15, 2013. The storm actually made landfall north of us, and passed through our area headed southeast on February 22. Along with a lot of rain, we had several hours of high winds. The next day, a river near Tulear (which I have only ever seen with a tiny trickle of water in it), overflowed its banks and flooded into parts of Tulear. Many, many homes were full of water and mud.
