ASpinnerWeaver: Weaving The Rainbow
http://aspinnerweaver.blogspot.com/2015/04/weaving-rainbow.html
Inkling my way through life. Saturday, April 18, 2015. I like playing with color! My husband tells me that I can't have too much yarn. How can I create beautiful designs if I don't have all of the colors of the rainbow to choose from? So, I am forever adding to my stash. The photo below is of a guitar strap I made a few years back. It was inspired by a yarn bomb discovered in Santa Cruz, CA. Read that story HERE. As it turns out, I put together these 22. Really like this one! One shed was all black and t...

ASpinnerWeaver: Cochineal - The Red That Colored the World
http://aspinnerweaver.blogspot.com/2015/05/cochineal-red-that-colored-world.html
Inkling my way through life. Sunday, May 3, 2015. Cochineal - The Red That Colored the World. This show got me thinking about doing something different and was my inspiration to weave a collection of wool hatbands, using yarn dyed with cochineal. I went shopping on the web and found some New Mexico Churro yarn, handspun and hand dyed by volunteers at El Rancho de Las Golondrinas. After the first few, I started combining these yarns with some from my stash to create more varied color combinations. Mos...

Monday, July 18, 2011. How To Make Finishing Wax For Patinas. The first ingredient is beeswax. I found some two ounce cakes of it at our local hardware store. Cut the beeswax into small chunks (or shred it) and fill a baby food jar with beeswax. This 2 oz. cake will probably fill the jar. The second ingredient is Turpentine. Just regular old turpentine, again- from the hardware store. Pour the turpentine over the beeswax to the top of the jar , put the lid on and set it aside. Sunday, July 17, 2011.
I'm Living History: October 2014
http://imlivinghistory.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 9, 2014. I recently read a blog post by one of my favorite bloggers Kitty Calash. So that means they must not have been very rich. I ended up explaining it to my trainee this way: if the Goodwins lived today, they could not afford their own private jet, but would fly first class. Yes they had money, but they were not part of the 1%. See there were gradations back then too. Read this entry on entry page. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I'm Living History: Variety in Living History
http://imlivinghistory.blogspot.com/2015/07/variety-in-living-history.html
Monday, July 6, 2015. Variety in Living History. There is no one Living History Experience. Last month we had a lovely variety of LH experiences, and I’ve been reminded again how there is no such thing as a typical reenactment, if you keep your eyes peeled and your mind open. A small group of us went to visit a middle school down in Connecticut, where we got to sit down with the kids, and they could ask us anything. Anything! Getting ready for an Immersive Overnight. How to attach stuff to your Frau.

Wednesday, February 4, 2015. Book Review: The Same Ax, Twice. Same Axe Twice: Restoration and Renewal in a Throwaway Age. I found the whole to be fairly melancholy: guys reviving old engines are described as puttering among the exhaust and nostalgia. American progress is described as a sad state of affairs. After a section on the Nevada atomic test sites Mansfield concludes: “American places are but a moment’s bright flash, followed by long, confused memories.”. Read this entry on entry page. Monday, May 4, 2015. Clothing the Renaissance Child: It Takes a Guild. I feel like I need to apologize because I have had so little time to sew, craft and create historical stuff. What I can do is profusely thank all the wonderful people in my life who are making it possible for me to continue reenacting and participating in Living History as a family. Some of the clothes made by my guild mates for little Landsknecht. Along with the hand-me-down clothes was a fleece hood that Brittney made for Lilly....

Wednesday, December 24, 2014. That random collection of digits. The average American does not know dates. I was talking with a retired Literature professor about volunteering at the museum and learning how to hearth cook. I mentioned that we use recipes from the late 18. Century, and his response was to ask if we were making pemmican and other Native American meals. By 1770 (what I meant by the later 18. Read this entry on entry page. Links to this post. Inkling my way through life. Monday, February 12, 2018. A Custom Order - Gone Horribly Wrong and Then Right. I get a lot of requests for custom straps. Usually I know right away whether or not I can do what the customer is asking. Sometimes I need to mull it over for a while. You can see one of those examples here). It appeared to me just about as tiny as it is appearing to you and in this orientation. I noticed that there were numbers alongside the drawing, but ignored them. WHY? I kicked myself later.

A Spinney Story
Saturday, October 2, 2010. Its crazy how I feel like I blinked and two years passed by, yet I honestly cannot remember what life what like before him. And I am glad I don't have to because this kid is pretty awesome. We spent Nathans birthday celebrating at the zoo, just the three of us, and had a blast! After the zoo, we took Nathan for his favorite meal; pizza (actually a cheese quesadilla but Nathan calls it pizza) and rice. Then is was back home for cupcakes! Happy Birthday Little Man! Wednesday, December 12, 2007. Word on the street is these projects have reached their recipient and so here they are. Lucy Neatby's Domino Baby Bonnet in Shelridge Farms yarn was a total blast to knit. The little squares were very fun. Weaving in all the ends, not so much, but still worth it. I'm envisioning a throw blanket with leftover sock yarn. Also a basic little sweater in Rowan Cashsoft. Thursday, November 15, 2007. Where, oh where, has my little Jenn gone?
