I'm Living History: Living History Bibliography
http://imlivinghistory.blogspot.com/p/living-history-bibliography.html
I will be updating this entry with links as I put up my reviews, so the ones with the titles all link-y will be ones I’ve got reviews posted on already. Based around museum programs. Time Machines: The World of Living History. By Jay Anderson, 1984. This one does not seem to be very available. Luckily Anderson’s Living History reader is easier to find, if not exactly in print. Living History Reader: Museum. S by Jay Anderson, 1991? By Stephen Eddy Snow, 1993. By Richard Handler and Eric Gable, 1997.
I'm Living History: Getting Restless
http://imlivinghistory.blogspot.com/2015/04/getting-restless.html
Thursday, April 23, 2015. I love my job, it is so much fun to bring special days to the museum; but I miss actually acting out the daily tasks, and portraying the fabulous women of this neighborhood. I did get into costume last weekend at a very cool reenactment, but it has only slightly diminished the pangs as I see the aprons and skirts go whisking by. I think I need to plan a tea party for May, so I can get dressed up. The renfaires seem very far away. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
I'm Living History: July 2015
http://imlivinghistory.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 21, 2015. I am a big supporter of alternate methods of learning, especially when it comes to learning history. Lectures, static exhibits, and books have their place but I’m just tickled that my job allows me to think out of the box and plan for all the different ways people can learn history. What I did manage to do was add two opportunities for folks to get up, move around, and connect to history by using their bodies: a swing dance for adults on Friday night, and an Old Fashioned Field Da...

Tuesday, April 28, 2015. A Good First Impression. I’ve brought this up before,. But I’ve been thinking about it again. Upon meeting someone we only get a short time to make a first impression. As someone educating about a different time and place the first impression is doubly important. Here are the things that I consider important in a LH introduction:. 1 Something about the time period you are representing. 2 Something about the person you are portraying. 3 Something to engage your audience. 4 Because...

Monday, May 4, 2015. Clothing the Renaissance Child: It Takes a Guild. I feel like I need to apologize because I have had so little time to sew, craft and create historical stuff. What I can do is profusely thank all the wonderful people in my life who are making it possible for me to continue reenacting and participating in Living History as a family. Some of the clothes made by my guild mates for little Landsknecht. Along with the hand-me-down clothes was a fleece hood that Brittney made for Lilly....

Skills, Scotch, and Surviving. A slightly rambling view from the world of one who hopes it never changes, but is preparing like it will. Friday, July 12, 2013. The value of basic handy-man skills. Let's say the world comes to an end tomorrow. Will knowing how to paint your walls or fix a leaky pipe matter? Sadly, our Lowes didn't have it in stock. However, a nearby one did and my wife agreed to pick it up after work. Neither of us pieced together that this sink was going to weigh in the neighborh...Armed...

Skills, Scotch, and Surviving. A slightly rambling view from the world of one who hopes it never changes, but is preparing like it will. Tuesday, December 18, 2012. Bringing young people into preparedness. In August of 2011, my wife and I had a child. Well, not had so much as acquired - a bouncing teenage girl! At which point my wife pointed out the food in the closet as well. That prompted our first real discussion about what we do. She thought we were odd, but rolled with it. A wood stove wasn't comple...

Between the Medieval and The Modern. February 22, 2012. Exploring the Medieval Mind for Lent. 8212; Frau Magda @ 8:37 am. A couple of weeks ago I went to my eighth ReenactorFest. Well, it’s called Military History Fest now, but as a non-combatant, I like the old name better) One of the great things about ReenactorFest is getting to cross-pollinate with other reenactors. I’m particularly grateful that I’ve gotten to meet Bob. Because the man just blows my mind. So this Lenten season, I’m buckling down and...

Skills, Scotch, and Surviving. A slightly rambling view from the world of one who hopes it never changes, but is preparing like it will. Tuesday, January 22, 2013. The importance of quality in Preparedness. But it has also made me think about the level of quality in what we buy. I think that attitude can work for those items we don't need to rely on, but what about the really critical items in our lives? What if your life actually depends on it? 1) Survival kit items:. 2) Critical work tools:. Have you t...

I recently ran across Gear Pods. In an article on ITS Tactical. Skills, Scotch, and Surviving. A slightly rambling view from the world of one who hopes it never changes, but is preparing like it will. Friday, June 21, 2013. It's been a while since I've talked about specific skills. Let's leave the political crap behind for a bit, shall we? If you can't eat, life without takeout will suck.
