A TASTE OF SAN DIEGO: March 2014
http://atasteofsandiego.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
A TASTE OF SAN DIEGO. Some of what we like and don't like about our new home. New York Buffalo Wings. Since we moved over this way, we no longer have Neighbor Neal. When it comes to the food, we found the wing pieces (not whole wings) to be small, with not a lot of meat (KFC is winning on that point), the fries were generic and the dipping sauces were a bit vinegary. To their credit, it was possible to get iced tea that wasn't dispensed through the soda machine. Dirty Chips and a 1 liter Mexican Coke in ...

A TASTE OF SAN DIEGO. Some of what we like and don't like about our new home. We've been meaning to check this place out ever since we heard of them but only discovered they'd built one nearby a couple of days ago (we're still waiting for a Carrabas and a Ruby Tuesday, BTW). We had no preconceptions (other than they're owned by McDonalds) and we read their menu before we went (the wife didn't like the prices). The Darla had the Shrimp Portofino and loved the combination of some fair sized shrimp, spinach...

A TASTE OF SAN DIEGO. Some of what we like and don't like about our new home. We were getting stir-crazy from being housebound for close to a month recently (my health), the heat wave this week and then the fires, so we decided to try to get out, even if only for a quick bite to eat. Recently checked this place out (he had the Dirty Sanchez burger). The Rancho San Diego location is one of 3 locations (there's also a downtown location) and essentially, it's an upscale burger bar. When the food arrived, th...

A TASTE OF SAN DIEGO. Some of what we like and don't like about our new home. We found this place online on New Year's Eve Day and drove over to check it out. It's not far from China Super Buffet, just off the 54 in National City. It's a small place (it looks a lot bigger on the web site) and features a number on very nicely carved wooden tables (and a number of fairly ornate carved wooden chairs in the main room) and parking is tight. The web site: http:/ www.laoriginalcasadeltaco.com. This morning, the...

A TASTE OF SAN DIEGO. Some of what we like and don't like about our new home. Although this was the wife's first visit, I've been to Milton's a couple of times before. Unfortunately, the last time I was there was the night I had my heart attack and died twice, on the living room floor at midnight. Service was slow but steady, very professional and due to language constraints, there was a mix up with our order which cost us a couple of bucks. Evidently you get cole slaw with the Monte Cristo and fries...

A Taste of San Diego II:. 7670 El Cajon Blvd. Place we've tried out since we moved here):. I saw BMH's ad (and coupon) in the weekly entertainment section of the paper this morning. I'd driven by there numerous times before and had never noticed it other than the faded sign out front and it appears they touched that up as the colors are fairly brilliant now. I had the coupon special, a torpedo with small chips and a soda for $ 6. And our total was $ 13. October 2004 - October 2006.

A Taste of San Diego II:. Fix Me A Plate Cafe. Fine Southern Style Cooking or something like that.):. They were too busy at Red Lobster at Grossmont Center in La Mesa and the customers were lined up out the door at Souplantation on Fletcher Parkway, also in La Mesa, so we decided to check out the new place right next door. That's what we get for going to dinner at the same time everyone else on the entire planet does, on a busy Saturday night. While we were waiting for our food, the 7. The Boy had the fr...

A Taste of San Diego II:. The Boy and I had started out going for the "Never-Ending Pasta" special at Olive Garden in Santee last night ($ 7. For all you can eat). Even though it was a Wednesday night and we got a relatively late start (well after 6. When we left), people were spilling out the front door of the place and we were told it'd be a 45. We walked next door to Mimi's and they said it'd be 10. The place is 1. Part pizza palace, 1. Part sports bar with approximately 2. The calzone had all of the ...

A Taste of San Diego II:. We first noticed this place from a review in the weekly food section of The San Diego Union Tribune. And as the location is rather obscure, we'd very likely never have found it ourselves. They call it Italian Fusion (classic Italian dishes featuring traditional Mexican flavors) as both of the women who own the place are Latin (one is from Ensenada and the other is from Peru, by way of Mexico City) and it looked great in the review, let's go check it out! For our drinks, the Boy ...

A Taste of San Diego II:. By now, most of you know that the wife has a new job in Point Loma (she's the Bar Manager at The San Diego Yacht Club) so I'm tasting over that way now, at least for a while, as there isn't a lot to eat over there (it's a small community). I wasn't impressed with this place at all and don't want to get into the business of listing everything wrong with it (virtually everything). Even though we've been here 3. Years on the 21st. I had the beef taco / cheese enchilada combination ...

Our Adoption & The Paradox of Agency Choice. Do you all watch TED Talks? I do And in 2005 Barry Schwartz gave a great one called “The Paradox of Choice.”. 7 million times this talk has been viewed. Mr Schwartz’s premise is, basically, that options do us no good. Or at least our happiness, satisfaction and lots of other decidedly positive things diminish as our options increase. When searching for the agency bound to bring us our second child I felt like a tiny Barry was sitting on my shoulder. 8220;Berry...
