A TASTE OF SAN DIEGO: March 2014

A TASTE OF SAN DIEGO. Some of what we like and don't like about our new home. New York Buffalo Wings. Since we moved over this way, we no longer have Neighbor Neal. When it comes to the food, we found the wing pieces (not whole wings) to be small, with not a lot of meat (KFC is winning on that point), the fries were generic and the dipping sauces were a bit vinegary. To their credit, it was possible to get iced tea that wasn't dispensed through the soda machine. Dirty Chips and a 1 liter Mexican Coke in ...

A TASTE OF SAN DIEGO. Some of what we like and don't like about our new home. We've been meaning to check this place out ever since we heard of them but only discovered they'd built one nearby a couple of days ago (we're still waiting for a Carrabas and a Ruby Tuesday, BTW). We had no preconceptions (other than they're owned by McDonalds) and we read their menu before we went (the wife didn't like the prices). The Darla had the Shrimp Portofino and loved the combination of some fair sized shrimp, spinach...

A TASTE OF SAN DIEGO: July 2014

A TASTE OF SAN DIEGO. Some of what we like and don't like about our new home. Although this was the wife's first visit, I've been to Milton's a couple of times before. Unfortunately, the last time I was there was the night I had my heart attack and died twice, on the living room floor at midnight. Service was slow but steady, very professional and due to language constraints, there was a mix up with our order which cost us a couple of bucks. Evidently you get cole slaw with the Monte Cristo and fries...

A TASTE OF SAN DIEGO: January 2014

A TASTE OF SAN DIEGO. Some of what we like and don't like about our new home. We had attempted to check this place out on New Year's Day but they were closed so we tried again yesterday. All of the reviews I read on Yelp were positive but. I ordered the beef teriyaki bento, which comes with rice, a couple of egg rolls, salad and grilled veggies, and the wife ordered the chicken teriyaki bento. Incidentally, a bento is a small, compartmentalized serving tray, if you haven't experienced it before. It wasn'...

A TASTE OF SAN DIEGO: May 2014

A TASTE OF SAN DIEGO. Some of what we like and don't like about our new home. We were getting stir-crazy from being housebound for close to a month recently (my health), the heat wave this week and then the fires, so we decided to try to get out, even if only for a quick bite to eat. Recently checked this place out (he had the Dirty Sanchez burger). The Rancho San Diego location is one of 3 locations (there's also a downtown location) and essentially, it's an upscale burger bar. When the food arrived, th...

A TASTE OF SAN DIEGO: December 2013

A TASTE OF SAN DIEGO. Some of what we like and don't like about our new home. We found this place online on New Year's Eve Day and drove over to check it out. It's not far from China Super Buffet, just off the 54 in National City. It's a small place (it looks a lot bigger on the web site) and features a number on very nicely carved wooden tables (and a number of fairly ornate carved wooden chairs in the main room) and parking is tight. The web site: http:/ www.laoriginalcasadeltaco.com. This morning, the...
