smiles and sunny days: To Birth a New Perspective for Students
http://brittanypaigewilson.blogspot.com/2010/09/to-kill.html
Smiles and sunny days. Wednesday, September 29, 2010. To Birth a New Perspective for Students. To Kill a Mockingbird was a different experience the second time around. In high school we focused on strictly textual material. Reading it the second time, I'm reading with a more advanced and even critical eye. What can we do to bring the text to life as teachers? What does it tell the reader? Isn't this the basis of learning? Not just become reacquainted with your own through a book. This is how students...

smiles and sunny days: Modern Day Evolution :C
http://brittanypaigewilson.blogspot.com/2010/10/modern-day-evolution-c.html
Smiles and sunny days. Wednesday, October 20, 2010. Modern Day Evolution :C. Feed is a book I've been unconsiously preaching since high school! It begs the question, Where are we going as a society? I fear this book is all too real and too close in our future. Don't believe me? Starting off, we may have been a little intellectually deficient, but you have to start somewhere right? See any resemblance here? In three clicks and a blink we're right in the story of Feed. Find out everyone's business, get a j...

Wednesday, October 27, 2010. Oldthinker Doubleplusgood 1984 Readwise or, Winston and I would like our bullets now, please. October 27, 2010 at 10:43 PM. You present many interesting approaches to teaching this novel. I particular like how you state that students could really have fun with Newspeak and doublethink. Maybe if I focus on the manipulation of language, then students can have fun with it and also get meaning from one particular motif in the novel. Am I allowed to do something like this? One las...

Smiles and sunny days. Wednesday, November 3, 2010. Romeo and Juliet: Star-Crossed Lovers take OUR lives C:. Okay, so Shakespeare's a pretty good writer. I get it. In our collegiate perspective, how many different approaches to this text have we experienced? Really who could forget that open button down exposing his wound! In high school, Shakespeare's name alone discouraged me, as if his writings set him upon a pedestal only the greatest of AP students could comprehend, unattainable to me. I think it ju...

TAL Reflections: Digital Mentor
http://tstaylor25.blogspot.com/2010/10/digital-mentor.html
Friday, October 22, 2010. Bauerlein is ignorant and lazy. How dare he pin the blame on his students! Where is HIS responsibility to move with the times and teach his students. The technology that will never ever go away no matter how much he whines about it? Should break the barriers of technology. We. Should be the first to know. We. Winston learns a valuable lesson about thoughts. They won't go away. No matter how much propaganda one listens to about newspeak and the thought police, a person's ...I tot...

Wednesday, October 13, 2010. When I was assigned Anne Frank Diary of a Young Girl. Years ago in one of my English classes, I did not read it. I liked almost every book I was assigned in high school, so I read all of the books I was assigned. except this one. I do not think it was the diary form I disliked, because I am currently reading Dracula. Is a much more powerful book. I feel like Anne Frank. Almost everyone loved it, right? I also know some other people who feel the same way about Anne Frank.

adlit-dobler: Shakespeare anyone?
http://adlit-dobler.blogspot.com/2010/11/shakespeare-anyone.html
Wednesday, November 3, 2010. Manga is still very new to me and I have had to fight my prejudices to appreciate it. Reading the Manga Shakespeare is very different in some ways than the Bard's original form. It is obviously more accessible. It requires MUCH. Less effort on the part of the reader. For a reader who is experienced in finding the meaning in comic forms, it undoubtedly provides a richer experience than I get. But the acid test is: Does the form allow the reader to make meaning? I also agree th...

Smiles and sunny days. Wednesday, November 17, 2010. Anyway, I get it. And I'm glad there was a section at the end posting that she understands now because I think in the end we all realize silliness of our youth and that's just what her shame is: silliness.
