Athlete Life Development: Transferable skills
http://athletelifedevelopment.blogspot.com/2015/08/transferable-skills.html
Tuesday, 4 August 2015. When applying for graduate entry jobs, or roles that you don’t have specific work-based experience for, you need to think about your ‘super strengths’ or unique selling points. Think about qualities and skills that you have which will separate you from applicants and think about clear examples of where you’ve demonstrated these skills or qualities. What action did you take, and what was the result of your actions? Problem solving and working with others to overcome a challenge.

Altitude Training Camps
http://www.altitudetrainingcamps.com/index.htm
When the Olympic Games were held at altitude in. Mexico City, it was evident that endurance competitors who lived at altitude had an advantage over their sea-level counterparts. The subsequent emergence of Kenya and Ethiopia as distance-running superpowers indicated that those who train at altitude not only perform better at altitude, but also at sea-level. Altitude training is now widely used by elite endurance athletes as a way of maximising their performance. For further information, please contact.

Friday, 10 June 2011. More about overcoming setbacks. As I mentioned in a previous post, it seems that some athletes have an incredible ability to overcome setbacks along the way. Http:/ www.runnersworld.co.uk/interview/rw-interviews-steph-twell/6854.html. Just over a year out from the Olympics and all the extra pressure that will place on the British athletes, this injury may even have been a blessing in disguise for Steph. Only time will tell. Athlete Life Development: Christmas Day: To Train or Not to Train
http://athletelifedevelopment.blogspot.com/2014/12/christmas-day-to-train-or-not-to-train.html
Wednesday, 24 December 2014. Christmas Day: To Train or Not to Train. This seems to be an annual question: should you train on Christmas Day, when your rivals might be taking a day off, or should you sit back, relax, and enjoy the festivities. The purpose of this post is not to tell you what you should do. I don't know your life, so it would be wrong for me to advise either way. Like everything to do with 'lifestyle' you've got to decide what works for you. Do I think that everyone should train hard on C...

Athlete Life Development: November 2011

Wednesday, 30 November 2011. Nutrition to stay Healthy- Part 1. After staying illness free for so long, even surviving the start of term I wasn’t surprised when I picked up a cold once I upped my training…… what I did find frustrating is it didn’t seem to shift, and when it did and I thought I was clear it came back. Firstly I should have taken my own advice and once any signs or symptoms started to show, back off and get plenty of rest, secondly don’t come back too soon! O Training- load and recovery.

Athlete Life Development: Why is depression so common in sport?
http://athletelifedevelopment.blogspot.com/2015/03/why-is-depression-so-common-in-sport.html
Tuesday, 24 March 2015. Why is depression so common in sport? PDF version of this piece to download. Think of your sporting hero. Chances are you're thinking of somebody that you see as a real winner. Somebody with seemingly superhuman qualities. Somebody who can overcome the most challenging of obstacles. Somebody who personifies physical and mental strength. Somebody who is invincible. So why are athletes, people that we see as invincible superhumans, so susceptible to mental illness? Released later th...

Athlete Life Development: Training during illness
http://athletelifedevelopment.blogspot.com/2014/12/training-during-illness.html
Wednesday, 31 December 2014. Following the immunity theme, and while cold and flu viruses are doing the rounds, I thought it would be sensible to do a piece on how athletes can manage their training during this time. We all know that athletes are tough cookies, especially endurance athletes, and try to get out and train no matter what. This, however, is a bad idea when you have a cold or virus! It is better to back off for a few days rather than end up with a much more serious condition. Christmas and th...

Saturday, 10 March 2018. Things you might need to know about sports supplements. Ever since a spate of nandrolone positives at the turn of the century were attributed to contaminated supplements, much has been written about the potential hazards of using sports supplements and the fact that – no matter what the label claims – there is no guarantee that any such product is free from banned substances. Yet, the use of supplements has skyrocketed! Saturday, 27 May 2017. Dental Health and Performance. Campbe...
