Glorious when freshly ground it’s the spice I would choose above even cardamom if I was only allowed one on my desert island. Happiness is a kilo of East End cumin powder. I’ve borrowed some plant combinations too – I first saw Cerinthe grown with Escholzia in a front garden in Leicester where the front door was flaking, faded turquoise and the effect was stunning. At Rousham I’ve seen the gorgeous. Perhaps unsurprisingly The Borrowers is one of my favourite books in children’s literature and it does appear to have been a strong influence on me, I hope Arrietty, Pod and Homily would approve. AtoZed of The Camel are. An alphabetical exploration of the North Cornish River Camel. E is for Egret. English rivers hadn’t seen much of the Little Egret. For two centuries until it recolonised the south coast from northern France in the late eighties. For the time being it’s still Amber listed. By the RSPB as a rare breeding species, but is increasing in number and can be seen on the mudflats of the Camel. Gadding about in shallow water, you should be able to spot it.
