http://autismsedges.blogspot.com/2009/01/hidden-costs-of-mismanaged-care.html
Life • love • learning. With our girl at the edges of the autism spectrum. Wednesday, January 21, 2009. The Hidden Costs of (Mis)managed Care. Being that it's January - new year's resolutions and all that - I had decided to do what our culture urges us to do at this time of year: make some health improving resolution. And I did. I got a physical from a new doctor since my dear doctor died. But come January 1, the insurance company came up with a new Rx plan with a new formulary and were denying payment -...

Life • love • learning. With our girl at the edges of the autism spectrum. Friday, December 09, 2005. What Do We Know? This blog entry is posted in gratitude to Kristina Chew, whose dazzling. Of her life with her son Charlie, informed by a keen knowledge of Classical Greece, has accelerated my own thinking about autism and authorship. 8212;that parents know only too well. Autism's Edges: Believing
http://autismsedges.blogspot.com/2006/12/believing.html
Life • love • learning. With our girl at the edges of the autism spectrum. Sunday, December 24, 2006. The year end extravaganza was starting to feel like just one more to do list, though admittedly written with a gel glitter pen. Tree up and trimmed. Check. Gingerbread people made. Check. Presents wrapped and hidden away for the hotly anticipated morning. Check. Cards written. Check. Well, some cards written, so half a check. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night! Yesterday M brought home some ...

It's short a few candles — since she's just turned nine — but don't you love the symmetry of it, and the flatness? And that cheery cherry topping it off? Happy Happy Birthday to a sweet girl- - sweets for the sweetest! November 13, 2006 9:50 AM. Happy birthday, Sweet M! November 13, 2006 12:51 PM. Mom to Mr. Handsome.
Autism's Edges: Little Bear, Mama Bear

Life • love • learning. With our girl at the edges of the autism spectrum. Sunday, December 17, 2006. Little Bear, Mama Bear. Sweet M has been moving forward with her reading at what seems like supersonic speed. Last week she read a book by Maurice Sendak and Else Holmelund Minarik called Little Bear's Picture. And made this picture and text summary. Move over Maurice! One of the many things I learned at Dr. Karen Erickson's. Will you read me Sponge Bob's A Very Krusty Crab Christmas. One of the things t...

A not-so-"typical" little girl and her family, with lots of love to go around. Thursday, January 26, 2012. The Spa at the Allendorf's. Who knew Morgan would be into this? I sat down in the afternoon yesterday to start the process of doing a pedicure.for myself. Usually I do this after the girls go to bed, but this time I thought "Why not? I'll see what they do.". Well, Morgan was fascinated! I want purple toes! Wednesday, January 25, 2012. Morgan's teacher called today during school time. At first I ...
Morgan Territory: Piper Pretends

A not-so-"typical" little girl and her family, with lots of love to go around. Friday, November 2, 2012. Apologizes for the quality of this photo. The light was "just right" so I couldn't avoid the glare, even with the blinds closed. I hope you get the idea. Piper has been amusing us with her "imaginative play" abilities lately. This is a "picnic" she set up one day, all on her own. Please notice that her dolls are being served steak and cheese while Piper and I are eating cookies. Ha ha! Amalah . com.

A not-so-"typical" little girl and her family, with lots of love to go around. Thursday, May 24, 2012. Well, would you look at that! She CAN write Piper's name! I was so surprised and proud of her. For a girl with challenges with her fine motor skills, I had no idea she could do this. Here's my girl looking quite proud of herself. Sorry for the blurry pic.it was the only one where she didn't make her goofy smile. Then, I decided to ask her if she could write my name, Mama. Well, of course she can! So, I ...

A not-so-"typical" little girl and her family, with lots of love to go around. Monday, July 30, 2012. We had a lovely visit with our RDI consultant Christine yesterday. We love it when we get to meet in person as it always gives us new motivation and energy to keep running our marathon. We have days with our RDI program that we just "don't feel like it" and those days are the ones where we need to remember that it is a long process, but if we are diligent we (and Morgan) will succeed. Please pray for us!

A not-so-"typical" little girl and her family, with lots of love to go around. Wednesday, April 25, 2012. Wordless Wednesday: Backyard Rainbow. Friday, April 6, 2012. Though, the way she pronounces it, it sounds more like "Robodoggie". So, that is it's name. We're not sure where this name comes from, but it makes sense as all the dog does is make a mechanical "arf" sound when you pull him by his leash (no batteries required either). Thursday, April 5, 2012. I can't even tell you how excited I am! There i...

A not-so-"typical" little girl and her family, with lots of love to go around. Monday, December 12, 2011. Dancing Queens (or not). Saturday morning Morgan and Piper had their first dance recital! We were so excited, but apprehensive as well. We have one "dancer" with autism and the other is technically too young for the class she's in. Anything could happen, right? Here's Piper's first performance:. Yes, we are "that" family, with "those" kids. Sorry, not so much Piper. As for Morgan, check this out:.

Autism's Edges
Life • love • learning. With our girl at the edges of the autism spectrum. Saturday, April 02, 2016. In Praise of "And". Meanwhile, our girl is blossoming into young adulthood – young womanhood – of the non-neurotypical persuasion. So I am also establishing her now, unequivocally, as a person with a disability. That means applying, at last, for SSI. Establishing Medicaid for her. And inviting a whole new array of acronyms into our vocabulary. Where once there was the alphabet soup of PDD-...So while we a...
