I don't need another dress said no one, ever. And Now For Something Completely Different. Pondering the dress →. July 13, 2015. I realized, if I want a costume for Halloween, I actually do need to start plotting now. Introducing (drum roll)…. Portrait by Alfred Chalon, 1838. Ding ding ding nerd alert going off! I am all about the nerdy costumes, and isn’t it convenient when it overlaps with historical costuming? Now, what the heck is going on in that portrait? That is some serious contrast going on.

I don't need another dress said no one, ever. Newer posts →. June 26, 2016. So pretty much every single corset of the 1910s had garters attached. Observe:. However, unlike in the 1910s, you can’t just buy wide ruffled elastic is multiple colors today. Even my attempts on etsy to find some totally failed. From Bridges on the Body. Why doesn’t elastic like this exist anymore? 😦 Kent State University Museum, accession number 1983.1.1500. I started with 3/4″ garters from corsetmaking.com. Pull the fabric al...

I don't need another dress said no one, ever. I’m not sure how it became standard for all seamstresses to have cats. Maybe the cats decided it, as that’s kinda how cats are. Anyways, at least I made the smart choice of getting color coordinated cats, so my costumes only have one shade of cat hair. They have a clearly demonstrated taste for the finer fabrics in life:. Wesley finds this linen acceptable. Although it can’t compare to silk dupioni and gold lace. Kaylee keeping it classy on my leather jacket.

Still doing research on the dress fabric, but taking a quick break to figure out corsetry, since this will be the most complicated part of the outfit. So I was all set to do some research, when I found this blog post on Romantic era corsetry by The Laced Angel. Holy kleenex batman, I can’t really see what research I could do which would be better than that! So here’s what I’m thinking:. Past Patterns seems to be th...

Regency and Historical Needlework. The Clandestine Regency Bonnet: A Quick Making-Of. Tuesday, July 14th, 2015. Without me noticing, the next exam season has crept up on me. Wednesday, June 10, 2015. Well, things have been siren inducing fun. I have had all my attention in a familial direction and just needed a fun, mindless and satisfying project. Avant Garbe | "I don't need another dress" said no one, ever
I don't need another dress said no one, ever. August 8, 2015. A quick post while I’m still researching the fit of 1830s corsets. So I actually made this chemise over a year and a half ago for my 1850s dress. Aaand the second it was finished, I hated it, and stuck it in the closet. Mainly, the neckline was a bit too high for the dress, and the sleeves were probably too long and I didn’t feel like fixing either of those things. Aww yeah mistake turning into design element. I think late 1830s chemises were ...
