South American adventure

My holiday in Latin America (putting my life on hold because I don't want to grow up and get a real job). Apr 7, 2009. Women preparing a field for planting. Is situated in the Cordillera. Real about four hours north east of  La Paz. Its like Scotland in many respects, steep hills and  lots of rain. . As we left the town and took fairly brutal 20 minutes . To think I was crazy camping here as the weather was like midsummer Argyll. On the first day, sporadic driving rain followed. Glistening in the sun.

South American adventure: Uyuni

http://www.axeman-dave.blogspot.com/2009/04/uyuni-and-salar.html

My holiday in Latin America (putting my life on hold because I don't want to grow up and get a real job). Apr 6, 2009. Curing a llama fetus in the local market. Typical street in Uyuni, no tarmac and huge holes full of water, Argyll and Bute council must have the road maintenance contract! One of the few wee bushes that wasn't wearing poly bags! The local latrine and dumping ground. Vicuna grazing a few miles out of town. You walk for miles and it just doesn't seem to get any closer, only more barren.

My holiday in Latin America (putting my life on hold because I don't want to grow up and get a real job). Apr 6, 2009. Salt mountain in a small village called Colchani. On the edge of the salar. After attempting to get to the Salar. On foot and failing I went on a jeep excursion to the salt flat. The Salar. Harvested salt in a drying heap. The people of Colchani. Harvest the top 5 inches of salt from the Salar. Is used as a transit route due to its flatness. There are several islands within the Salar.

My holiday in Latin America (putting my life on hold because I don't want to grow up and get a real job). Feb 16, 2009. Swimming in the Tigre delta. Mat took us to the Tigre delta the day before Sarah left to catch some sun and do a bit of swimming, lots of mosquitos on the Island we were on, and some people who were very suspicious of the foreigners walking around! We spent a most pleasant afternoon swimming and throwing mud at each other. Looks like the Proct was at the helm of this one! We visited Mer...

long hot summer nights: mini-invasion

http://matintheworld.blogspot.com/2009/01/mini-invasion.html

Friday, January 16, 2009. I saw my first couple of rhino beetles. Troddling clumsily down the road today whilst on my travels. I remember when I was here last time there was an outbreak of them in the Summer of near-biblical proportions - you had to be careful where you stepped they were literally everywhere! Wonder if it'll happen again this year. Anyway I'll try and take a half-decent pic of the miniature-monsters to post here . Want to see the Rhino Beatle Trail! January 21, 2009 at 7:42 PM.

BENS TRAVELS IN NEW ZEALAND: A COUPLE OF SHORTER MISSIONS

http://benstravelsinnz.blogspot.com/2009/01/couple-of-shorter-missions.html

BENS TRAVELS IN NEW ZEALAND. Monday, 19 January 2009. A COUPLE OF SHORTER MISSIONS. Had a spin around 'Fernhill Loop' today. Was a nice wet afternoon, so I felt quite at home playing in the damp woods. Almost made me homesick. After a nice climb in the woods you get back in the open and skirt around the top of the hill. Just before you descend you get a wicked view down to Lake Wakatipu and the. Remakables. Which were hiding in cloud today. Too much like hard work. 21 January 2009 at 14:41.

long hot summer nights: long exposures from new years eve

http://matintheworld.blogspot.com/2009/01/long-exposures-from-new-years-eve.html

Friday, January 2, 2009. Long exposures from new years eve. This is the view from the cincho (its like a miniature house at the back of the garden) looking back towards Alejandros mums house, where we spent new year. Everyone waiting with baited breath for the food to arrive! We managed to get up on the roof at midnight for the fireworks which turned out to be like a 360 degree show, things exploding all over the place which was ace! Pretty hard to get a decent photo though. That tree foto is ace!

long hot summer nights: November 2008

http://matintheworld.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Thursday, November 27, 2008. After the wedding everyone bussed it back home via Montevideo where I had the fortune of getting off and not getting back on the coach, as I stopped off for a wee visit to Montevideo to see my mate Adam from Boston who's supposedly teaching English in the area. First port of call was the fantastic beach at the southern end of town. I think it was called the playa de los pocitos. They had some pretty good murals in places on the wall that cordons the beach from the street.

BENS TRAVELS IN NEW ZEALAND. Sunday, 28 December 2008. MONDAY MISSIONS : SKIPPERS CANYON. Soooo, Monday Missions is all go! Todays mission was the 'Pack Track'. A beautiful bit of singltrack heading down 'Skippers Canyon'. A good 15min of pure downhill singletrack. What more could you want! The view from (almost) the start of the 'Pack Track'. Looking back over to the 'Remarkables' mtn range. Remarkable isn't it. Just over to the left was an awesome view over to 'Arrowtown'. So at some stage it was a pub.

http://matintheworld.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html

Thursday, December 25, 2008. I'd forgotten that people open their presents at midnight on xmas eve here, after a slap-up dinner which this year we ate round at Sonias house. L-R: Tony, Alejandro, Graciela, Sonia, Santiago, Anamaria, Adri / me (depending on which version of the photo you're looking at). Mimi enjoyed playing with the wrapping paper after the opening frenzy, if only it was so easy to please everyone . So all thats left to say is Merry Xmas everybody and thanks for all the crazy presents!

long hot summer nights: February 2009

http://matintheworld.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

Wednesday, February 18, 2009. Japanese gardens, palermo. These are actually from last November when I got back to the japanese gardens in Palermo, serenely beautiful little oasis in the middle of the parks area of the city. I could have spent all day there. I found this cool effect on my camera which isolates the colour of your choice and takes the rest of the photo in black and white, the results were quite interesting with the striking red bridges, blue sky and green foliage to choose from.

http://benstravelsinnz.blogspot.com/2008/12/monday-missions-moonlight-track.html

BENS TRAVELS IN NEW ZEALAND. Monday, 22 December 2008. MONDAY MISSIONS : MOONLIGHT TRACK. I think we're gonna make mondays a regular day for a big ride! Explore the area some more. Not so much about adrenalin based biking, more about escaping to the hills and seeing the amazing scenery this place has! Todays mission was the 'Moonlight track', a big loop that goes around the back of 'Ben lomond' and 'Bowen peak'. Which are the hills behind Fernhill and Queenstown. Justin relaxing while I take photo's!

Wizful Thinking!

Monday, November 16, 2009. What do you wanna watch on TV? If you watch TV all! Without first giving a bhashan on the state of Television in India today, I want to know: what do you 'watch' or 'would like to watch if given a choice'? There are many options and the platter is still not full but the poll next to this post tries to cover the length and breath of the kind of TV programming being unleashed on us these days. A little bhashan 'cos I can't help it? Is what most TV gurus and marketing pundits woul...
