Starting an Automatic Car For Beginners. 1 Put key in door. 3 Pull handle to open door. 4 Sit down in drivers seat and close door. 5 Put key in ignition. 6 Adjust seat if necessary. 7 Put on seatbelt. 8 Check handbrake is applied. 9 Check the car is in ‘PARK’. 10 Check all mirrors. 11 Put foot on brake. 12 Turn key once to the right. 13 Make sure their are no warning lights on the dashboard. 14 Turn key again to start engine.
