Epipaleolithic Foragers In Azraq Project (EFAP): May 2010
http://kharaneh.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 30, 2010. Week 2 - School's Out! Its week two and we are digging maniacs! Sunday was a little breezy, to say the least, and we couldn’t actually work on-site so we had a catch-up day in the lab – got a lot of flotation done and 4 mm fraction sorted! The next day the wind died down and all was back to normal. In fact, the weather was amazing – nice and sunny, but with a refreshing cool breeze! They came to see the site and then joined us for lunch back in Azraq. Friday, May 28, 2010. We starte...

Epipaleolithic Foragers In Azraq Project (EFAP): July 2010

Tuesday, July 20, 2010. Week 7 - Over and OUT! This week we had Toby back with us in Area B – yeah! At the moment we are focussing on getting the boundaries of the feature exposed, photographing and mapping. Then, we will dig it in small 25x25 cm areas. Sunday Jay arrived – woohoo! It is very cool, but very complicated and thus slow-going. We did what we could this year, but so as not to rush it, we will have to continue next year. We also had a BBQ with our workers and neighbours on Sunday night, where ...

Epipaleolithic Foragers In Azraq Project (EFAP): Football in Azraq....You Bet!
http://kharaneh.blogspot.com/2010/07/football-in-azraqyou-bet.html
Monday, July 5, 2010. Football in Azraq. You Bet! I’ve put some general excavation photos here, including Kevin and Danielle looking very professional, and one of the many multi-person attempts to provide shade over the excavation squares for photographs on a windy day. Horn cores (see pic of horn core collection). Is a first for us. In fact, the lithics are bigger and definitely early EP, meaning that we can confirm that we have Middle EP overlying Early EP in the western side of the site.

Epipaleolithic Foragers In Azraq Project (EFAP): May 2009
http://kharaneh.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Saturday, May 30, 2009. Kharaneh IV 2009 - Week Two. Kevin came to visit and work on the site for a few days this week. I was really happy that he came out to see the site and work on it, but he kept writing in his field notes ‘No pottery found today’. This was not really the most helpful comment, since the site is occupied long before pottery was around! Posted by Epipaleolithic Foragers in Azraq Project. Friday, May 22, 2009. Kharaneh IV 2009 - Week One. And then, it was the first day off…Yeah! Most of...

Epipaleolithic Foragers In Azraq Project (EFAP): July 2008
http://kharaneh.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, July 12, 2008. Week 6 – the end! We have now completed our final week at Kharaneh IV for this year and I, for one, am now enjoying a relaxing week in Madaba. I am lounging pool-side as I write this. I hired a dump truck to bring us 12 m3 of sand to use for backfill (so it would be very different from any deposits on-site or nearby), and we filled lots of sand bags to keep everything anchored down. We also covered over just the very surface of our trenches with material from the sieve, so yo...

Epipaleolithic Foragers In Azraq Project (EFAP): Week 4 - Paris and more Paris.....
http://kharaneh.blogspot.com/2010/07/short-but-sweeeeet.html
Sunday, July 4, 2010. Week 4 - Paris and more Paris. This was a bit of a short week, with only a few days on-site and then our mid-dig break. The mid-dig break is extra long this year because Danielle and I went to Paris – yes, legitimately…The Department of Antiquities had its 11th ICHAJ conference in Paris from June 7-12 and so we presented on our work and then enjoying the city. A mid-dig break in Paris, who could ask for more? Posted by Epipaleolithic Foragers in Azraq Project. Week 7 - Over and OUT!

Epipaleolithic Foragers In Azraq Project (EFAP): July 2009
http://kharaneh.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, July 16, 2009. Kharaneh IV 2009 - Week Seven - The END.but only until next year! Well, the very last week! The second big find, which we discovered on the last day, was an isolated human bone from a pit feature. We only really had time to determine that it was indeed isolated in a pit fill, but only caught part of the pit (the rest was in the baulk) and so I guess we know where we will dig next year! That night we relaxed back at the house and enjoyed a little end-of-dig feast and hafla (party).

Epipaleolithic Foragers In Azraq Project (EFAP): June 2008
http://kharaneh.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 29, 2008. Begining of Week 6 - already! Just a very quick message while I am breezing through the internet cafe on my way to get more red plastic crates. We have just started our last week of excavations and are beginning to tidy things up. Two big things make the news for us: 1) last Friday it was 48 degrees celcius in Azraq! And 2) yesterday we hit sterile deposits in our deep trench! Wow, it has gone fast and we now have a lot of flints to deal with. Wednesday, June 25, 2008. I did already...
