Backroom Bourbon

Discussions and thoughts on bourbon. An experiment in maturing bourbon in an oak cask. Saturday, March 28, 2009. 3-28-09, I have emptied the barrel. I decanted about half a liter. It is a darker, richer, smoother bourbon than what went in. I have now refilled the barrel with Old Charter 8 year old again. I plan on leaving it in for at least two months. This has been a great experiment. And it will continue as long a the barrel continues to mature the spirits within. Links to this post. Links to this post.

Backroom Bourbon: Week Two

http://backroombourbon.blogspot.com/2009/02/week-two.html

Discussions and thoughts on bourbon. An experiment in maturing bourbon in an oak cask. Sunday, February 15, 2009. 02-15-09, It is now two weeks and I think the bourbon has picked up a little more color than week one. Again, the control is on the left and the barrel sample is on the right. The taste is still mellow. Compared to the control. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Maturing Port in an Oak Cask. http://backroombourbon.blogspot.com/2009/01/maturing-begins.html

Discussions and thoughts on bourbon. An experiment in maturing bourbon in an oak cask. Thursday, January 29, 2009. Now for the bourbon. On the left is the Old Charter 8 Year Old and on the right is the Old Charter 12 Year Old. I have never been a fan of the Old Charter 8 year old. It has a; for lack of a better word; horrible taste. As stated elsewhere. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Maturing Port in an Oak Cask. The Barrel Source (Where my casks came from).

Cigars

In this section of Backroom Bourbon I will discus various cigars I smoke. I have been smoking cigars for about 15 years. My father smoked them when I was a child, but he put them down after having some health issues. I really picked up on it while I was in the Army. I found it very relaxing while on field operations to be able to smoke a fine cigar in the outdoors. Saturday, March 28, 2009. Smoking on the Red. Shara was really facinated with him rollong the cigars. I bought two extra Toranos. There were ...
