The Bakers

Friday, June 22, 2007. After traveling to Beijing, we returned to Shanghai for some final packing and prep for our return to the US. After a 14 hour flight to Chicago and a 7 1/2 hour layover we finally made it home. The return home was bitter sweet but the comforts of home are better than we thought they would be. The first time I drove a car in over a month was awesome - total control! He has worked very hard to get to this point and I'm proud of him. Tuesday, June 19, 2007. To end our final evening in...

The Bakers: Traveling around

http://bakerfamcom.blogspot.com/2007/06/traveling-around.html

Monday, June 4, 2007. The main difference we noticed between the big city and the "small" towns are the stares and the looks. It was as if they had never seen a white person before! Occasionally we are asked to pose for photos by people in Shanghai but the looks and photos were a bit over whelming in Suzhou. For once, I felt compassion for celebrities dealing with the Paparazzi except I don't think these people were always looking at us kindly. Like all good tourists, we traveled in rickshaws to our next...

The Bakers: Sliding down a Slush Puppie

http://bakerfamcom.blogspot.com/2007/06/sliding-down-slush-puppie.html

Tuesday, June 12, 2007. Sliding down a Slush Puppie. Despite the fact that I have spent the majority of my (Jon) time outside of our apartment sweating, whether I am indoors or out, Jamie and I were still able to ski while in Shanghai! How, you say? Indoors, of course! Shanghai is one of only 3 places in the world with indoor skiing (we only know of three at least so that's all that counts), and we thought it was worth a try on one of our last nights in Shanghai. So off we went. Love the pink outfit Jon!

The Bakers: The Great Wall - Truly Great

http://bakerfamcom.blogspot.com/2007/06/great-wall-truly-great.html

Saturday, June 16, 2007. The Great Wall - Truly Great. We arrived in Beijing Thursday afternoon. For our trip here we decided to hire a private tour service so that we could see a lot of sites, have transportation provided from place to place, and have an English-speaking tour guide everywhere we went. That was one of the best decisions we made the whole trip. There were a number of cute little kids, an old man racing around in hockey skates, and more. It was good time. Little apologetic, and asked if it...

The Bakers: Things I will not miss about China

http://bakerfamcom.blogspot.com/2007/06/things-i-will-not-miss-about-china.html

Tuesday, June 5, 2007. Things I will not miss about China. Sadly, this list is a bit longer list but it does not reflect on how much I like or don't like living in china. Pungent smells - as you walk down the street I would NEVER recommend a deep breath in. The smells go from sewage to urine to smoke to body odor back to poop. It is pleasant. The constant ear piercing squeak of breaks / tires on any moving object - cars, bikes, scooters, wagons etc. Have these people never heard of WD-40? Temples, Temple...

The Bakers: Wrapping up our time in China

http://bakerfamcom.blogspot.com/2007/06/wrapping-up-our-time-in-china.html

Tuesday, June 19, 2007. Wrapping up our time in China. Our final site-seeing stop was the Summer Palace. This too was a park just for the Emperor, but it was much bigger and it included a man-made lake. This was called the summer place because it was the exclusive property of the emperor when we wanted to leave the stifling heat of the city and head to the summer palace. Doesn’t every on have one? The Baker Family

Passion. Purity. Purpose. Sunday, September 11, 2011. Today is the 10th anniversary of 9/11. It was a sad day that I will never forget. Same kind of sadness and shock as the OKC bombing. I will never forget where I was and what circumstances were in my life the day it happened. Even though they were different places, days and issues, one thing has been constant.God is in control. Now, if I wasn't sure of my salvation and my eternity with Christ, that would scare the life out of me. He wants us to be ...

A Red Thread........

Joseph Kendra Fabiola Maryn Kaydin Tristan Trevin Rylynn Kellyn Ewan. Thursday, January 27, 2011. The Baker Family - a red thread. Wednesday, January 26, 2011. Give me a break. I know this is way out of left field, since I haven't blogged in quite a while, but I needed to get this off my chest and facebook wasn't the proper forum on which to do so (you know, what with only allowing 420 characters. Is that really enough to properly rant and rave? Doesn't make much sense does it? Foreign Economic Support f...

Life with the Baker Family

Life with the Baker Family. Thursday, September 20, 2012. Then Leah got Trindon's cold. Then this week Phil got some serious stomach bug and passed it on to the rest of us.that's an ongoing issue with the kids right now and we're just hoping to avoid any more trips to the pediatrician. And I didn't even mention this nasty bump on Leah's head. On a more positive note - Leah rode in the Durant Homecoming parade with Hadley and some other girls from her dance class. All ready for the parade. We took a weeke...
