Monday, October 28, 2013. Searching for a subject …. Making a decent picture of the Taj Mahal, a lion on. Safari or a rugged mountain is not that tough as the subject does most of the work; but what if for one reason or another, you are not lucky enough to spend much of your time in exotic destinations and grabbing shots of your family or the odd local parade are getting old are not lighting your creative fire. Lets start the examples with something that hopefully is always available to you. Rust tool or...

Random Images: The First One
http://plbimages.blogspot.com/2013/09/the-first-one.html
Wednesday, September 18, 2013. I think in life one always remembers the "first" of any possession or event that happens. For a "would be" photographer, I suspect it would be their first camera. In my case, it was. I was never allowed to use this camera. But when my dad could no longer resist my begging, he bought me the most popular "point and shoot" of its day the. Shuffling through the bundles of pictures I also found some pictures I had made with this very camera. Probably on the same vacation I made ...

Saturday, August 10, 2013. The bottom line is that they operate the museum and these are their rules. Disobey them at your own risk! There are several problems to be overcome to make a decent picture in the indoor museum environment. If you want a black and white final image of course you are home and dry either way. Shooting in raw will allow you to work on your image in post and attempt to reach a good compromise or choose a balance that complements the artifact. Cases can be problematic; of course it ...

Random Images: Have you seen my charger?
http://plbimages.blogspot.com/2013/07/have-you-seen-my-charger.html
Sunday, July 21, 2013. Have you seen my charger? My father was a perfectionist. “A place for everything and everything in it’s place”, was his iron cast motto. In my infinite wisdom I married a lady who must have somehow been to the same school. Photography has become my main occupation – I am old now and other stuff seems to fade away. If you travel with electronic gizmos you know what I mean. Cables, power supplies, memory cards, adaptors, ear buds. thumb drives etc., etc. If you pick a colour for each...

Random Images: "Bagophile"
http://plbimages.blogspot.com/2013/08/bagophile.html
Sunday, August 18, 2013. Almost anyone who has been in photography for some time seems to accumulate bags - hence become a bagophile! No matter which bag you buy there always seems to be one just a little more suitable to your needs that eventually is added to your collection. Different gear needs have their own bag needs is often the rational for yet another bag purchase. If traveling and shooting from a vehicle, I like hard cases; they stack easily and really protect your equipment. An old style should...

Friday, June 25, 2010. Megapixels), and the more expensive the camera the wider this range –called the dynamic range –will be. If the picture you are trying to make exceeds this range many cameras will blink the are out of range on the LCD some will also show a histogram of the range of brightness on the image. If you know how the histogram works you probably already know what I am about to explain if not check you cameras manual. If you do not have RAW available what are your options. In Florida at this...

Friday, June 28, 2013. We have all been wowed by the beautiful and detailed shots of the moon produced by satellite cameras and sophisticated telescope on earth. We cannot equal these without access to their equipment and skills; but making a basic moon image of your own can be a simple and interesting project. Getting the Exposure Right:. If you select this and place the image of the moon in the center of the LCD ,you are pretty much certain of a good exposure of the moon itself against a black sky.

Sunday, July 18, 2010. No Bars just a clone away. I was reviewing my haul of images from our local large animal refuge when I came upon an “eye shot” of a tiger. It was made using a 50-200mm zoom at 200mm at f7.1 and 400 ISO. And a shutter speed of 1/100. Pretty slow shutter speed for a 200mm lens but thanks to the stabilization built into the camera I was able to achieve a nicely sharp image. But i did have the wire fence in view! Below is my first pass at cloning the wire out. If you are a. Simple tem...

Wednesday, March 26, 2014. Living,in SW Florida,as we do, we are surrounded by rivers, lakes and ponds not to mention ditches and swales; An attractive habitat for frogs. The frogs seem to like to sing and eat at night thus making it difficult to see them let alone make a picture. Was about the size on an adult humans thumb from the nail to the first joint( body only); the legs really stretch out when they are leaping. Presumably you are shooting from the inside to show off the foot pads, the built in fla...
