Sunday, June 5, 2011. We've been making wood shingles for the roof of our Tumbleweed house. This picture shows the froe in action, with the homeowner doing the pounding and shingle making. He has been involved in all stages of the project. This froe was hand-forged by our friend Elmer Rousch, a local blacksmith. Friday, April 22, 2011. No, not that kind of tumbleweed. The Tumbleweed Tiny Home company has plans for, as you might guess, tiny homes. The sizes really are small, from 65 to 850 square feet, but less can be more. Check out their website- there are some beautiful examples of their homes. We are building a tiny home, using Tumbleweed plans that the homeowner chose. Starting with whole, living trees, we felled and sawed the trees, and the lumber is drying in the solar kiln. Friday, April 8, 2011. So we try to grow our own here at Barred Owl Builders. Kale, that is. And a lot of other stuff. We experimented this year with some tiny hoop houses for our greens. Wednesday, May 9, 2012. This blog is turning into projects Pav is working on.but they are beautiful projects and a huge part of our life here on Owl Creek. I haven't posted any pictures of the Tumbleweed house since the guys were working on making the shakes for the roof. But after many months the tiny house is taking shape and looking like a home. The exterior received paint and this beautiful stain glass window recently. The interior walls and ceiling are being installed. Stay tuned.

Every summer CSA season starts again and inevitably my mom has tons of vegetables that need to be cooked. this led to the creation of a dish, which is more like a blueprint, that has become a tradition in the huizenga family – it’s called beans ‘n ‘greens ‘n rice.
