Would be interesting to study, actually compiled/scraped the text and metadata (see Background and Creation. Post), improved/verified the quality of the data, and computed a handful of simple, corpus-level statistics (see Data Quality and Corpus Stats. Post) Now, onward to actual natural language analysis! I would argue that the. Combine all articles into single block of text.

Second, more big news: Decay, the feature-length, physics-themed zombie movie I co-produced, filmed, and edited while also earning my physics PhD at CERN has been released online! You can watch or download it. Now, back to data science! To sentiment analysis, part-of-speech tagging to speech recognition. NLP is a huge and increasingl...
Intro to Automatic Keyphrase Extraction
http://bdewilde.github.io/blog/2014/09/23/intro-to-automatic-keyphrase-extraction
Intro to Automatic Keyphrase Extraction. I often apply natural language processing for purposes of automatically extracting structured information from unstructured (text) datasets. One such task is the extraction of important topical words and phrases from documents, commonly known as terminology extraction. Or automatic keyphrase extraction. As a general rule of thumb, keyphrases should be relevant to one or more of a document’s major topics, and the set of keyphrases describing a document should provi...

NYC Open Data Presentation. Back in October, I gave a brief presentation on the benefits of NYC Open Data for tracking issues on a district-level. This was primarily motivated from my work at the New York City Council and will be the basis of my MPH thesis, in which I will be creating a knowledge management system to quantify and visualize the 311 data for better communication in the policy arena. However, what I wanted to share with everyone in this post is the idea of reproducible slides using slidify.

Blundering through Budapest
Tuesday, January 10, 2012. Friday, December 2, 2011. London, Edinburgh, and more! I have many exciting things to write about, so I apologize if this post gets long. First up, my trip to London and Edinburgh. I left shortly after my last class on Wednesday and arrived at my lodging in London (courtesy of Joseph Replogle) around 10:30pm. The really convenient thing for me is that all of the Pomona students studying in London are staying in the same apartment, so I got to visit them all simultaneously!

Just because I like this picture so much I think I am going to leave it on here for awhile longer. Here is a photo from a few years ago. Ok, it was in August of 1972, less than a year after The Magic Kingdom opened in Florida. When the only thing there was The Kingdom, Contemporary, and Polynesian. Who would of thought I would be here now working 40 years later. So if you head to The Keys tab, there is updated info there on the trip. 2013 All Right Reserved Privacy Policy.
