TOBY RADCLIFFE: May 2011

Friday, 20 May 2011. The North Face Challenge 100km China. One step on the Great Wall. A view back over a flat section. Ming Tombs on the run route. By the time I had reached the Ming Tombs I was in quite a bad state. The section from 40kms to 70kms was tough, both mentally and physically. I could no longer hold the ‘natural’ pace that I’d been enjoying in the earlier sections (barring the uphills! At the finish I knew I was properly broken as I could not even run the entire last kilometre without having...

Will Miller Triathlon: December 2009
http://willmillertriathlon.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Thursday, December 3, 2009. I am Walrus, I am the Bassman. By the time October rolls around, it’s a little chilly for racing here in the mid-Atlantic…but there was time enough to squeeze in one more before all the booties, tights and hats come out of storage and I head to my soon-to-be-home-state of NJ for another crack at the Bassman. Despite having done the race last year, I headed down the day before anyway to ride the course and get the packet situation sorted. Unfortunately, the traffic situation di...

Will Miller Triathlon: May 2010
http://willmillertriathlon.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Monday, May 17, 2010. Jersey Shore Kick Off Sprint Tri Race Report. So, maybe ‘retirement’ didn’t take. At the end of last season I hung up my wetsuit, racked the race wheels and left my TT bike in its bag for almost 3 months. With the newest Groban record due out in early spring, I figured I’d be on a tour bus by now (or at least traipsing around Europe doing all the weird chat shows you do on promotional runs.). And even go to the pool. Well, occasionally…. Surprisingly I wasn’t all that nervous. Unfor...

Will Miller Triathlon: April 2009
http://willmillertriathlon.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 27, 2009. Sandy Hook TT Race Report. Just did the Sandy. TT in NJ. A simple 7-mile out and back on the isthmus that makes up the beaches of Sandy. One of them's nude! It's super popular, though. Over 80 registrants in Cat 4/5 alone! Couldn't even go with my sexy HED Jet in the front, WAY too windy. Bummer. Now I just need to teach him to swim. Monday, April 20, 2009. Always a bridesmaid, GU IronMed Triathlon. Ahh, the Yates Pool at Georgetown, my second home. I spent practically every d...

Will Miller Triathlon: Savageman Race Report
http://willmillertriathlon.blogspot.com/2009/09/savageman-race-report.html
Monday, September 21, 2009. I want to get this one done quickly as I’m afraid my brain might try to purge this traumatic experience from my memory. It must happen, how else could they get people to return for this race year after year? But if you read no farther than this, simply know:. SavageMan is quite possibly the best race ever. You have to do it. You’ll hate me right around the halfway point of the ‘Killer Miller’ climb (how psyched was I to see that name? Myself, another guy and Bjorn Andersson.

Will Miller Triathlon: July 2009

Tuesday, July 14, 2009. Diamond in the Rough/Metroman Race Reports. And then Karen P. points out that Diamond in the Rough is still open! Why the link I used told me it was sold out I have no idea, but I so loved the idea of the long swim/bike, short run format that I signed up immediately, figuring I could cajole a refund from the Metroman people. Pleased to find numbered racks. I wish more races would do this as it keeps the congestion down. Though, a small tip, once you learn the flying mount ...I exi...

Will Miller Triathlon: July 2010

Tuesday, July 20, 2010. Jersey Genesis Race Report. It was good to be back to my old style of ‘tri camping’ at the Jersey Genesis tri in June. Though, amazingly, this time I was roughing it even more than usual. Campground? Who needs a campground when you’ve got an empty parking lot and only a few hours before the race anyway?
