Monday, 1 June 2015. Last night a fluttering and knocking against a window alerted me to a moth caught in a spider web and it looked far too big for the tiny spider in whose nest it was caught. It needed rescuing and I wanted a photo, so it was a win, win outcome. After cleaning some web off its antennae I brought it inside for some photos before releasing. I haven't found any identification references that show the exact patterning but the closest was one of the Swift Moth family Oxycanus rufescens.

Sunday, 1 March 2015. Late yesterday afternoon we had a pair of Glossy Black Cockatoos fly in for a feed on the ripe seed cones of one of the Forest She Oaks Allocasuarina torulosa. In the woodland adjoining our orchard. I am unsure if it is a male and female pair of two males as the female has some yellow markings which were not evident on either of the birds although there was colour variation between them. So many leaves on the ground the whole property is gold and orange with the odd bit of red thrown in. I've been trying to get things put to bed bit by bit. For some reason my heart doesn't seem to be in it like other years. Maybe because I've been busy preparing for the long cold winter to come. Regardless, yesterday I got a bit done. Cats on a dull day.

Amateur naturalists discuss the flora and fauna of the San Francisco Bay Area of California, USA. Tuesday, August 16, 2011. A Green Anole on Maui. He has a dewlap or throatfan under his chin that he would open up from time to time. It was bright red or orange in color and would stick out from under his neck by half an inch or so. He wouldn't do this when I had the camera on him, though. But, here is a picture of a gecko with his dewlap out. Some say they escaped from a pet store. Links to this post.

I expect we'll see an influx of people coming to open their summer houses and cabins. And so it begins. Traffic and strange faces up until Labour Day weekend in September. Gives me a spring feeling. The sun is higher in the sky these days and I can feel the warmth as it comes through the windows. My old shed on a sunny day.
