Beneath the Bracken

Wednesday, 22 November 2017. Alexandra Siedel’s poetry is breathtaking; haunting, whimsical, and witty. I’ve been an admirer of it for years. It was only back in February, when I finally had the pleasure of meeting her, that I realised that she also writes short fiction. Not quite sure how I missed that, but I have since put things to rights. Do check out Alexa’s blog: Tiger in the Matchstick Box. Issue 16 of Lackington’s. With the theme: Trades is now available. Beneath the Bracken: December 2013

http://beneaththebracken.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

Thursday, 19 December 2013. She sang the faeries to her. It hasn't been a terribly creative time lately, but I have managed two collages. As always, I came up with a line of text inspired by each photograph and added it to the collage. She sang the faeries to her, with a voice of nectar and thistles.". They combed the shore together, looking for the water sprites they knew lived amongst the shells, pebbles of flint, and mermaids' purses.". Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). She sang the faeries to her.

Friday, 27 February 2015. At night, when the sea had quietened down. Just finished another of my story collages. 20 x 20 x 3.5 cm). At night, when the sea had quietened down, she would listen to the stories told to her by the souls of the lost and drowned fishermen whom she had collected since she was a girl and kept safe in nests of shell and phials filled with sand.'. These are certainly not made in a pet-free studio). Items get moved around, discarded, brought back. It's a process that takes place...

Beneath the Bracken: October 2013

http://beneaththebracken.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 23 October 2013. The magical hour when all things turn from inside to out. A pre dawn walk. Through hugging mediaeval alleys. A city in the deepest night is a thing transformed. There's a deep and silent magic at work. My own thoughts twist in labyrinthine patterns and designs. Which can only occur in an unpeopled crowd. In the inside-out darkness. The wraith of the gothic cathedral, pride of Regensburg, looking as though a witching-hour sun. Is bursting from its windows. And her best friend.

Monday, 21 January 2013. On my work table. As I was working on new collages this past couple of weeks, I took photos of my work table from time to time. When I'm working on a series of collages, or in this case two series, I usually lay out a few of the canvas or wooden supports I'm going to use as well as the boxes of materials: papers, scraps of fabric, antique photos, pressed flowers and leaves, antique letters, glass beads, old keys. This is - of course - loads of fun with a kitten present. Andas I w...

Beneath the Bracken: April 2014

http://beneaththebracken.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, 10 April 2014. The land awakening. Fields thrumming green. The waters warming. Ducks foraging. A walker who had gone before, playing with stones in the wood. In my studio, Molly will have absolutely no interest in my things,. Until I go to work with them. In return for her letters to them, the faeries left her gifts,. Assorted trinkets, tokens, and treasures. They would find on their restless wanderings.'. The faeries would come to listen to her tell the stories she wrote just for them.'.

caravanartist: January 2011

http://caravanartistblog.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 18 January 2011. The flooding caused by the weekend's torrential rain is slowly draining away although we still have a lot of water lying on the fields and after last night's frost, a lot of it has frozen over! However, the sun shone today and we had a lovely walk down through the fields and round the great ponds which will hopefully disappear before too long. Tuesday, January 18, 2011. Wednesday, 12 January 2011. What gloomy, murky weather we're having! Which is full of wonderful recipes. There...

caravanartist: March 2011

http://caravanartistblog.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 29 March 2011. Over the last few days I've been amazed at how quickly the trees have started to come to life with all sorts of beautiful little buds and tiny, fresh, new leaves. The sun has been shining and it's been quite mild although there is still snow on the higher hills and we've had a few frosty nights. Trees which were stark and bare a couple of weeks ago are beginning to take on a delicate, pale green, hazy look as their new leaves appear. Tuesday, March 29, 2011. Monday, 21 March 2011.

caravanartist: in the frame......................

http://caravanartistblog.blogspot.com/2011/03/in-frame.html

Saturday, 19 March 2011. Here we are over half way through March already! Where has the month gone? I've been so busy over the last few weeks that the poor old blog has been rather neglected but now, armed with a huge mug of hot chocolate and accompanied by one of my Spotify playlists I'll try to catch up. I do all my own framing and use a mixture of new and recycled frames which I usually paint to complement my work. I bought sample pots of a few colours. Before the Annie Sloan treatment. I'm really exc...

caravanartist: beautiful books............................

http://caravanartistblog.blogspot.com/2011/03/other-day-i-was-photographing-some-old.html

Monday, 21 March 2011. The other day I was photographing some old books for a piece of artwork and admiring the beautiful pattern on the spine of one of the books. Looking along the bookshelves I found several books with pretty embossed designs on the covers and before long I had pulled out a pile of books whose cover designs had caught my eye, so here are some of my favourites. Tuesday, 30 November 2010. Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Sunday, 28 November 2010. Although my last posting had today's date, I actually wrote it on Friday and the winter army has advanced significantly since then. A great deal of snow fell on Friday night and yesterday was extremely cold then it snowed through the night and continues to do so as I write. We have also had lots of thunder and lightning and many areas have lost their power supply, AND it's only November! Sunday, November 28, 2010. We had lun...

Wednesday, 27 October 2010. Wednesday, October 27, 2010. Sunday, 24 October 2010. Felt is uppermost in my mind right now as the Handmade and Vintage Fair looms ever closer and a mild feeling of panic begins to set in! After a work-free weekend which included a jolly evening in our local pub AND a wedding, the week ahead will have to be a productive one. I've already made a few of my hedgerow scarves and here is one being worn by a really gorgeous male model! Sunday, October 24, 2010. Food from the wood.

caravanartist: shards and fragments..........................

http://caravanartistblog.blogspot.com/2011/02/shards-and-fragments.html

Friday, 25 February 2011. Many years ago , when the railways around this area were still operational, loads of waste from the towns were brought out to the country and spread on farmers' fields. Presumably there was a useful amount of organic waste which was good for fertility building, but also, amongst that waste there were old bottles, jars, clay pipes and lots of broken china and pottery. Friday, February 25, 2011. 25 February 2011 at 15:54. Isnt it amazing that delicate, fragile glass bottles can ap...
