Reflections on the Revised Common Lectionary by Rev. William D. Cotton. Wednesday, January 27, 2010. MEMO FOR JAN 31. JEREMIAH 1:4-10 The Reluctant Prophet. 8220;Then I said, Ah, Lord God! Truly I do not know how to speak, for I am only a boy. These “come lately” students are a real blessing for the church. They are eager to learn, willing to read books, and they serve in small places where hope is thin. And do you know what? 8220;what are you doing here? The Memo is now available on my blog at.

Reflections on the Revised Common Lectionary by Rev. William D. Cotton. Tuesday, February 2, 2010. Memo for Sunday, Feb 7, 2010. The Luke passage has Jesus showing the fishermen where to catch the fish. As I read my Bible it would seem that the fishers never caught any fish without Jesus? S clubs as a form of evangelism. I think this was a good use of the text but there is more here . Paul and the Resurrection. Was it because he had not yet read, or heard Mark preach his Gospel? View my complete profile.

Reflections on the Revised Common Lectionary by Rev. William D. Cotton. Thursday, January 14, 2010. Memo for Second Sunday after Epiphany. John 2: 1-11 “On the third day there was a wedding at Cana.”. I think it is nice that the first miracle in John’s gospel has Jesus turning water into wine- and lots of it. Who needed all of that wine? He filled six stone jars each holding 20 to 30 gallons. That is a lot of sauce! That’s how Jesus addresses Mary. And why did the event happen on the third day? Moving to...

Transfiguration Sunday is upon us and we have another seven inches of snow. T know who puts these lessons together, but I think that Deuteronomy 34:1-10, the account of God showing Moses the promised land and then telling him that he can? But, certainly not Moses. http://accdocpastor.blogspot.com/2012/11/nattering-nabobs-of-negativism.html
Iowa Pastor David Clark's musings about the intersection of faith, social issues, and pop-culture. There was an error in this gadget. Friday, November 30, 2012. Nattering Nabobs of Negativism. I’m reminded of the famous line written by William Safire and spoken by then vice-president Spiro Agnew in which he talked about the press. The same could be said of way too many church folk. Iowa Pastor David Clark's musings about the intersection of faith, social issues, and pop-culture. There was an error in this gadget. Monday, February 11, 2013. I love the ESPN segments called. That features NFL players making boneheaded or classless decisions. Sometimes I think there should be a C'Mon Man! Segment for the church. Of course, we’d inclusivize it to. The pastor earned a collective “ C'Mon People! 8221; from the church community and she later apologized. Unfortunately the more she talke...

The Scandal of Singing Christmas Carols During Advent. You’d think with all the problems of the world, we’d find more interesting things to rouse our indignation.) Dear Family and Friends,. I’m running for a cure! YES, I AM DOING IT AGAIN! As many of you know in July of 2010, my life changed forever. I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. I am happy to say that I am currently in remission (6 1/2 years) and hope to remain there. I attribute some of my recovery to the overwhelming support I received from my family and friends. I could not have done it without them. I believe that many of us have had family and friends stricken with various types of cancers. I am ...

Dispatches From the Front Lines of the Culture War. All right, so Pam’s tagged me. With a music meme. And what the hell, I’ll play along. The idea is to go here. And grab the list of the top 100 songs from your high school graduation year (though I’m not exactly sure what measuring stick they’re using to pick the “top songs”). Then mark them up as directed. (Oh, and I’ve added hyperlinks from the song titles to the track in the iTunes Store. I’m going to. I don’t think I can realistically ask you to.
